From the same report, middle class Filipino and below make up 92.8% of Filipino household incomes. They range is 9,100-63,700 php per month ($165 - $1,158). Household income is different than individual income. The expat makes about $2,000 individual on social security, so he makes more than 92.8% of the population as an individual. He is considered rich to the Filipinos, because he makes more than the vast majority on his income alone vs Filipino household income.

Some immigrants make about $1500 social security, and some of us bring in a good $7,000 (these would be military retirees that also get VA disability, once social security is added, then it is closer to $9,000 a month).

Interesting information. And I do love seeing how the people of the Philippines view economic ranges very differently than many other countries. The reality is that many of the immigrants that come here and are seen as rich, are actually poor in their own countries. Which is why so many move here... the low cost of living (and the beautiful morena women)...

Hi Annie, at last a sensible person talking sense on what is needed to live there. Drives me bananas hearing most of the expat clueless vloggers saying we need minimum $2k . Thanks Annie , you are a breath of fresh air, Happy new year to you and your family.

Well I do live here. I’m not a clueless expat! If an expat wants a 1/2 Filipino/ 1/2 foreign lifestyle then 2k a month is a start. More is better! I shoot for 2k but it is usually more. That’s with no rent and we own a car and scooter. A lot of foreigner come to live not just survive. And yeah I’m not even close to rich!!
@cjack202003
@cjack202003 9 ай бұрын
@@51dbail I agree. Minimum 2k, if you want to live and actually enjoy Philippines...not just survive. Example: up to 1k budget for rent, utilities, internet, cellphone service plan...etc. The other 1k or more for groceries, food, going out, exploring Philippines etc. 2k is bare minimum to live not just survive. If you're financially stable and have at least a 2k budget, you can really live and enjoy Philippines, instead of just surviving. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in...and there's still a lot of broke expats. Smh.
@mrmadborg
@mrmadborg 9 ай бұрын
@@51dbail Everyone has their own standard of living and dreams, some want to live basic and blend in to the culture, others want to spend every paso in their pocket living it up. I have been on many channels like this for many years researching the kind of retirement i want that suits my budget, situation and long term sustainability. I have heard countless monthly household budget from vloggers all over and totally agree with Annie's figures. The Filipina Pea even directly told me a year ago many expats live and quite happy on 1k budget with their filipina. Many will of sold their homes back home and are sitting on a nice nest egg when they need it, in other words, those with a sustainable plan survive those that dont fail.
@mrmadborg
@mrmadborg 9 ай бұрын
@@cjack202003 i disagree, 2k is not minimum by a long way as Annie describes, just because someone is living the way they want is any less happy or content than the other is crazy. Having your own home there would future proof against rent rises for example and having a nest egg to fall back on is needed also. Plenty of options to cut costs in many areas but up to the individual lifestyle you want to lead and can sustainably afford. Sure places like Manila you need 2k but not everywhere, plenty of quiet cheap places to go to live the dream.
@scott80ca
@scott80ca 9 ай бұрын
@mrmadborg Maybe before the pandemic you could have got by on under 1k a month. Inflation has also hit the Philippines, and the pocketbooks of many expats. Living under 1k a month is possible for some (like a single guy eating cheap food and renting a small room) but not feasible if you have a family. My budget in the Philippines was more like 1700 a month and thats with 2 little kids and a vehicle. House already paid for so no rent. That's living in the boondocks in the province in Bohol not in a city. If in a city then it's more.

No, this is the top error people do when coming to the Philippines. You cannot live your full life "just" starting with that amount. Amount that looks big but it's not, unless you are 75+ old today. No, you'll deplete it *FAST* . You need a small source of income too, at least $300 a month, or you'll really end out like many other guys who believed to live their full life on a fixed amount and it got all into unexpected expenses.

Filipina’s that seek older retired Americans should know that the average government pension (Social Security) at age 62. (The earliest age to draw SS) this average pension is $1200 USD per month. This varies by how much that American worked and how much his salary was while he was working. Some Americans get additional benefits for being disabled but keep in mind a man that is disabled does come to the Philippines with medical or mental health problems. They can most certainly get the medications but they should also have a doctor that they follow up with to manage their problems. Great video about the Philippines!

You need to understand Philippine culture. When you marry a Filipina, you marry the family. you can disagree all you want...but if you dont consider the family it will never end well. And it will end..trust me. This doesnt mean that when you marry a Filipina the family starts forwarding their monthly bills to you, it means you are expected to consider the family, their needs and contribute a little to help out now and then. It is something YOU control. My wifes family never makes me feel like I must do anything, but I do, as I know it is important to my wife, and that makes it important to me. Embrace it.

555 you are smart and beautiful, and yes you need 2k usd to live comfortably, and 4k to live good. However, the fact that only 1% of filipino keep over 60K usd in the bank is a bit misleading. Richie rich filipinos have millions, they just do not keep it in the bank but in assets, like owning a big company or rental properties. Very nice show, keep on the good work and God Bless.

Annie, I think sometime money is looked as a negative in the Philippines. The more money a man has then the more he can take care of a filipina family. Getting a college degree or buying land all takes money. Buying a car or Animals or medical bills take money... wouldn't it be nice to have a foreigner husband who can pay for your family to stay at a Resort or fly to Japan? Money is meant to make your life easier ❤❤

My Filipina v wife grew up poor. I was worried b that when we got married she would want to go on a crazy spending spree. But in fact she's mostly been frugal. Her one real splurge is that she wants to take taxis all the time instead of trikes for the extra comfort. And she's very protective of our money. She caught our maid stealing P500 from my wallet and she was way more upset about not than I was.

Hi, Annie! I'm not sure if you'll see this. But I have nothing against relocating to The Philippines. My main concerns are being able to support myself. I want to be able to earn money (i.e. have a job). I have bipolar. So ... being able to receive proper care for that is also a concern. This is Andrew. Thank you for your replies to my comments on your other videos. You're very kind. I'm also wondering what currency the figures mentioned are in.

Hello Andrew, your always welcome there’s nothing wrong with that if you want to make money while your here in the Philippines but you need to think what kind of job you want to do while your here and if you want to look for partner to take care of you im sure you’ll find someone just make sure she knows your concerns and some filipina is not that choosy especially those girls from the province im sure you’ll be ok living in the Philippines im always converting to USD. ☺️

@@DearANNIE28 Thanks. What I meant in terms of my bipolar is meds and such. I’m on prescription meds and am in therapy to treat my bipolar. Sorry for the confusion. You still didn’t answer my question about the Filipina not being a virgin while the guy is. I’m just wondering how Filipinas generally feel about that. It’s been my experience that here where I live in the United States it’s a massive red flag for a guy to be a virgin. I’ve had some ladies (not Filipinas) tell me it’s a dealbreaker. As an aside … my current pay rate is $18.77 an hour (US). I work a 40 hour week.

Dude, there’s no way around it, you’re going to have to come up with a way to cold approach the women you actually want, who seem high class. The next time you’re at the bank, or a hospital, etc., you’re going to have to walk right up to that high class looking Filipina and let her know you’re interested. You’re going to have to just assume because you’re American, and hopefully at least decent looking, she’ll be happy you approached her. You may not get the first one, but by the time you get to girl number 15, you should have someone willing to go on a date with you. keep in mind, you are rich to them, and unless you’re hideous, I don’t see how 15 different women, anywhere in the world, are going to turn down having dinner with a rich man. Just make sure the women you’re approaching are the ones you actually desire, with no exception. You’ll eventually get the girl. You just have to deal with a little bit of risk of embarrassment when it comes to the initial approach. Who cares? You’ve let being shy affect you your entire life in the United States, don’t bring that self limiting nonsense overseas where you have all the advantages! One thing I would suggest to make, approaching a little easier, as well as less embarrassing on the Filipina you’re approaching, is to get you some business cards with your name, email address, Instagram handle, etc. on them . This way, you can quietly slip your card to the bank teller, or the nurse drawing your blood, without her coworkers noticing. It’s also easier to just slide a girl a card, with a quick compliment, rather than standing there trying to give a spill for two minutes. Just try to make sure the business card actually seems like it was designed for a business, not a card made specifically to give to women. Lol. You’re not trying to come across like a player player. Lastly, depending on your circumstances, and your physical attributes, you may have to do what I call reasonable settling. If you’re 60 years old, with a noticeable potbelly, it may be a difficult struggle to get 19-year-olds who look like Instagram models. You may have to reasonably settle for the very pretty 35-year-old. You might really want a Filipina doctor, but you might have to reasonably settle for a nurse supervisor. You might really want that Filipina that looks like an Asian Marilyn Monroe, but you might have to reasonably settle for the girl that looks like an Asian Audrey Hepburn. Don’t totally abandon your standards, just tailor them to fit your current realities, and to dial back the difficulty level a bit.

In the US, $4,000 / month is middle class. Here, its rich. You can live better on $X in PH than in the US ... But not that much better. Housing and medical care here are very cheap.
