Great review Troy. With everything else being equal, which strings pattern is better for net/volley players?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse Жыл бұрын
I think between patterns like 18x20, 16x19, 16x20, 18x19, it really all comes down to what the player perceives or feel is best to them. In general, a dense pattern like 18x20 can help players feel more connected to the ball, a little more surface area on contact, but then again some players really prefer the more open patterns, because that is what they are used to from many years of use. I would say 18x20 usually feels great on slice, and at net, but can be harder to create shape on the ball from the baseline....Troy, TW

Hi Troy, How does the Tecnifibre TF40 (18x20) compare to the Solinco Whiteout 305 (18x20) standard racquet? Thank you for your insights on the 18x20 racquets! Tim
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 11 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say this is always the case, but the very small spec difference between these two is pretty much what I have noticed on court. The TF40 18x20 (2nd Gen) swings with a little more heft or plow (swingweight) and feels a bit more plush or slightly more flexible. The Whiteout 305 18x20 feels slightly more maneuverable, and just a bit crisper firmer feel, although I didn't think it was uncomfortable. Another thing that I notice having played a lot with the various TF40's and the Whiteout (mostly XTD 18x20) is that the grips shape is a bit more rectangular with Tecnififbre (closer to a classic Head pallet) and the Solinco pallet is a bit closer to a traditional Wilson or Dunlop type of pallet. Troy, TW

@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy! A follow up question for you. I’m a 4.5 all court player, play mostly dubs. That said, in terms of performance and playability, which racquet would you lean towards: TF40 (18x20) 2022 or the Solinco Whiteout 305 (18x20) standard size? I know you like the Whiteout 305 (18x20) XTD :) Tim

Great Video. What makes 18x20 more difficult to use than their 16x19 counterparts?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 11 ай бұрын
Some find it a bit more difficult to generate spin, or that bite or grab on the felt of the ball, due to the string spacing being tighter. Also the launch angle can be a bit lower on groundstrokes, so on the upside the trajectory is a bit more direct or linear, but the more open spacing of a 16x19 or other open patterns makes it easy for net clearance on groundstrokes. Also, when strung at the same tension/same string, the 18x20 pattern will feel more firm and board-like, and easier pocketing with a more open pattern, so that can be a preference thing when it comes to feel, or you can just string lower tension with the 18x20 for more pocketing. Troy, TW

@@tenniswarehouse THanks for the detailed reply. I get the feeling that i will like an 18x20. I feel i play my best tennis with control oriented 16x19 rackets as it is. I have been using a Pure Strike and Vcore Pro 97. I feel they give me the confidence to get close to the net when want to and target the lines. I'm thinking that an 18x20 will give me more of what i like.

Hey thanks for the review, isn't 305 hard to play? I'm a flat player and am really looking for 18X20 racket but I'm just afraid about the weight. I use to play in 16x19 tfight 300. Was wondering between a blade S 295 or blade 305 / tf 40. Thanks a lot!!!
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 25 күн бұрын
Every player can have different preferences with the weight, so most of us find 305 grams (unstrung) pretty manageable, not too difficult to maneuver. Besides the weight, the swingweight spec plays a big part as well in how the racquet maneuvers. We haven't played with the Blade 98S in a quite a while (not available in the US) so hard to say exactly how that one will feel. But I think the TF40 18x20 might be slightly more maneuverable than the Blade 18x20 (on average, specs can vary) but they both have fairly high swingweights. You might also consider the Prince ATS Tour 100P, which is also 305 grams and 18x20 but has a more manageable swingweight. Troy, TW

Between gravity tour and prince ats 100p, which one is more comfortable for arm (I'm having minor tennis elbow) and easier to generate power and spin?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 7 ай бұрын
I would say both are good for comfort, however the current version of the Gravity Tour (sold at TW Europe) has a slightly stiffer rating based on how we measure it in the yoke region. So I would probably give the edge in comfort to the ATS Tour 100P, we also find it provide slightly easier power. I would say spin potential is pretty comparable between the two, a little more open string spacing with the 100P but the rounded head shape of the Gravity Tour helps with topspin potential. Troy, TW

Which string pattern provides the highest feel from ball? Dense or less dense? Thanks
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse Жыл бұрын
Typically speaking players will have more connection to the ball on contact with a more dense pattern. That said, feel is a very subjective thing, and for those who have used more open patterns for their whole career, then they will probably like that "feel" more so. Troy, TW

I would likely say for sweet-spot and power, the Speed Pro, or Prince Tour 100P. The Strike 18x20 has a ton of plow through power, and same with the Gravity Pro, but likely not as easy of power as the Speed Pro. Troy, TW

Yes, a bit more soft feeling from the Phantom 100X 18x20, but both are pretty solid and stable, around the same mass and swingweight. The TF40 305 18x20 (2022) version also feels pretty solid and stable, and could be comparable to the VCORE Pro 97D with a little bit of customization. Troy, TW

Which current 18x20 would be the logical replacement to an old wilson ultra tour v2.0? Thanks!
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse Жыл бұрын
you might consider trying to demo a few options. Some that come to mind are, Dunlop CX 2.0 Tour 18x20, Head Prestige Pro, Yonex VCORE Pro 97D, Tecnifibre TF40 305 18x20, and Head Gravity Pro. Most of these are heavier than the Ultra Tour, but are some good options to consider. Of the bunch, the more maneuverable options are the Dunlop CX 200 Tour, and Head Prestige Pro. Not sure if you are playing the Ultra Tour in stock form or with added weight. Troy, TW

@@yatuducheeez If you could find an old Yonex Vcore Pro 97HD that would be the closest to your Ultra Tour along with the Dunlop CX 2.0 Tour 18x20 I have used both frames; currently play with the Dunlop.. Both just good old fashioned thin beamed rackets with low flex and unbelievable feel and no bells and whistles. The newer Vcore ProD is a little thicker and firmer then the HD. I just love the the plush feel of the HD but I always go back to my CX 2.0 Tour i like the slightly smaller head and the Sonic Core has just a unique feel I have never felt with any other racket. They are just hard to find now only on Ebay. Another option he didnt mention was the Phantom 97.

@@MMm-kp7lk thanks for your thoughts! Dunlops are harder to find and pricier where I am. I did try the 97HD but for some reason didn't like it that much, found it demanding and not comfortable considering the flex rating. I think the one I got was a bit head heavy. That being said, I'm now experimenting with the Gravity Pro and my first impressions are very good. Just need some adjustments on the OHBH since I'm used to smaller headsizes. Cheers!

what would be a reason to not have 18x20 pattern on racquets below 300g?
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse Жыл бұрын
It just makes the power a bit more difficult to generate, and also it makes a racquet feel more firm when strung at the same tension as a more open pattern, so a bit less comfort. There were some older racquets, like the old Wilson Six One Team (95), and the older Head Radical MP's that were a bit lower than 300 grams and 18x20, but not common. Troy, TW

Hi, what is the string recommended for head speed pro
@tenniswarehouse
@tenniswarehouse 9 ай бұрын
There's a lot of good options out there for the Speed Pro. We typically use a co-poly, and some of our favorites are Head Lynx Tour, Solinco Hyper-G, Luxilon ALU Power, and Volkl Cyclone. With the Speed Pro's 18x20 string pattern we usually prefer a 1.25mm or 1.20mm for a bit more bite and feel. That said, there are a lot of multifilaments and hybrids that can work well in that racquet. Troy, TW

I heard that the holy grail is the Dunlop CX 200 Tour 18x20 Limited Edition, with a Solinco weighted butt cap, and leather grip making it 17.3 points head light. Great for one-handed backhands, and very easy racquet head speed. It makes it very hard to not do shadow swings in the office, when that racquet is next to my desk. -TW Playtester
