Same here. I had rented it from Blockbuster and gave it to my dad to return. He had it tucked under the seat of his truck totally forgetting it was there after running around doing other errands. I never asked if he brought it back, just assuming that he did, until the store called and asked for a whopper of a late fee nearly half the price of the retail version. My dad can be absent minded at times and I have learned not to trust him for any future tasks no matter how simple they may be.

I actually kinda liked Bubsy on Genesis back when I was a kid. It was a challenging, slightly unique platformer that had a cheesy charm of its own. I was used to cheap deaths and having to memorize levels back then I guess, so the off-screen enemies I viewed as a challenge to overcome rather than a detracting frustration.

Bubsy isn't what I would consider to be "bad". It was a "decent", typical early 90's platformer. If you want BAD, try "Bubsy 3D" on the original Playstation.

RetroGamerAaron i thought bubsy was a decent game. certianly not as good as sonic or mario...but heck it wasn't horrible, i can actually enjoy playing it. (but i can never beat it) bubsy 2 was...not as good as the first...it improved on the one hit issues...but the levels felt short-ish and i do agree bubsy 3d for ps1...that was horrible, bubsy 3d is unforgivably bad.

I played Bubsy 3D and it's not as horrible as everyone says it is. I can agree that it's bad I wouldn't play it again but it's not nearly as bad as everyone is putting it out to be.

You guys should do Earthworm Jim 2 for both consoles. I heard you you can switch your sub weapon in the SNES version, whereas the Genesis version, you can't. So basically, if you have the screen clearing chimney cannon that does nothing to bosses, you'd be screwed on the Genesis.

I think the trouble with the Bubsy games on the 16 bits is that they're memorable but not for being good games. There are thousands of worse games but they're mostly all forgotten. Bubsy 1 and 2 were just typical mid 90's platformers.

The Genesis and SNES don't have the same Power Rangers fighting game. The Fighting Edition that is on the Genesis is a bootleg, and is very poor as all bootlegs tend to be.

By the way, the SNES may have white HUD text vs the Genesis yellow--I actually prefer the choice of white here--but what it actually has is smoother text (less pixelated). It's subtle, but once you notice it, it's a clear win in SNES' favour for the HUD. Just a small detail that most people seem to miss, but when the games are this close, it's the little details that make all the difference.

I always felt Bubsy got an unfair shake. Yeah, the first two games were AMAZING like Sonic or Mario but for what they were? They were pretty fun. I still enjoy popping it in every now and again. It has heart, I'll give it that. For sure better than some other 'mascot' attempts in the day for sure. It's in that middle ground between 'passable' and good'. I guess 'decent' would be the term.

The graphics are similar, but look at the mountains in 7:28 for example, the dithering is more noticeable on Sega and the title screen, you can clearly see the shading on the mountains is more detailed and smooth on the Nintendo.

I never thought that Bubsy was a bad game when I was a kid. Sure it's slippery and frustrating, but I'm actually good at this game. Bubsy 2 on the other hand, pretty much the same game but the only difference is the diving suit, the Rad Nerf Gun & hit points which is even better. They were my grandma's favourite games.

Personally, I love Bubsy 1. Can't stand any of them after 1 though. 2 screwed up the controls, the gameboy one sucked, the one on jaquar had better controls but shitty level design, and we all know how 3D turned out. If you've never played a Bubsy game before and you try the first one, give it a fair chance. It's no where near as bad as people say it is. The biggest problem is that you have to take time to learn how the controls work and how to counteract the floating. Once you can actually control it, it's fun. Not even close to the best platformer, but it can still be fun. Bubsy 1 gets a bad reputation because the other games suck, and reviewers like this or Jontron go out of their way to exaggerate how bad it is. Try it out before assuming the internet is right.
