🚨 UPDATE 🚨 • As several viewers have commented, OutRun did NOT utilize music buttons - I go it and Outrunners confused. Outrunners, however, DID have these music buttons, so that adds even more credence to the arcade ROM theory, and make the inclusion of Outrunners that much more likely.

My fav port of outrun is cannonball run with widescreen and 120hz support. It gives some modern features without taking away too much from the retro. Turbo outrun re-imagined is also looking pretty good.

It could easily be Out Run, Turbo Out Run and Out Runners. That was what was released on the 1up sit-down unit. Original Out Run is already out on Switch, and on the 3D Out Run, it is available on the 3DS classics cart. Out Run and Turbo is what I'm guessing. If Outrunners is included also, then that would be super amazing

I really hope it's the proper arcade version we get on it and not the Megadrive port. As you said Jon, it wouldn't make any sense for them to go to the trouble of adding an analog wheel on the cabinet for a console port with digital controls. I hope they're going to try and make the cabinet look a _bit_ more like the proper OutRun upright cabinet, with the route map above the steering wheel and the iconic OutRun side art. Would be awesome if they added the extra music tracks from the Nintendo Switch port too.

Hi Jon! Thanks for the update. I usually see these on Facebook but I am finding this out for the first time through this video. I'm definitely excited for this and the I love all of the details (especially the radio buttons). If there is any extra I want to see on this, it's Turbo Outrun since the only other current way to play that game in cab format is on the Arcade 1up unit which for me, is too big in terms of space. Also, just imagine how sweet this until is going to look right next to the Pole Position Cab. Out of all of the announcements so far, I think this one is my favorite at the moment (I'm also curious to see what they are going to do with Golden Axe as well (hopefully Revenge of Death Adder will be on there as well). Great video as usual! Can't wait to see your CES Coverage

@GenXGrownUp If they do Death Adder, I hope they find a way to fix the sound issue of the music turning off mid-game. I have an Astro City Mini as well as a Pandora's Box and on both units, it has the same problem due to the emulation. I still love the game though and I'm just glad we get to own and play it.

Definitely getting this one, while others are saying Outrun Coast to Coast. You would need a powerful little chipset to run that one. The PSP version doesnt quite cut it.

Very cool that we may get the arcade rom along with possibly at least one additional game like Outrunners. As long arcade Outrun is a go I will definitely buy this even though I already have the Sega Ages version of Outrun on Switch and the 3D Classics version on 3DS. Outrun is one of my favorite Sega games from that era, it’s just a fun, chill game with fantastic music.

Where was it on the cabinet? Was that the one with a button on the side of the shifter handle?

Turbo Outrun also came in an upgrade kit in the arcades. Owners simply added the kit to an Outrun cabinet and it allowed the start button to be the turbo button. Perhaps MA could use that solution, or they might add a little button to the gear shift. However I think the extra game is OutRunners based on the music buttons.

I would guess Outrunners. Outrun in the arcade never made use of the radio controls, you picked the song in game(steering left/right) before the start. Outrunners let you change stations on the fly using specific buttons for the task.

I must say, as many "perfect home versions" of Outrun I already have (Switch, 3DS, Saturn (my favourite with smooth mode and remix sound)), and always maintaining I want to see different releases from Sega such as Outrunners rather than Outrun, or Return of Death Adder rather than GA, etc, I will buy this, because with a steering wheel, albeit mini, it will be still be too cool not to have a mini outrun machine.

Since it's running the arcade ROM and in a mini cabinet, I would expect the steering wheel to shake when you went off-road or crashed. I would be all in if they included that!

Analog buttons not shaped like triggers exist. The PS2 and Xbox original had analog buttons using pressure sensitive pads, it would not be difficult to implement it on this unit.

From my experience, it would be very minimal return for the extra cost. I ran a test with the arcade ROM in MAME by entering the service menu to observe analog change from a digital button, and it's very responsive (full pressure within .5 sec) and briefly releasing allows for a smooth ramp down. I'd guess that most users wouldn't even notice the performance difference between digital and pressure-sensitive buttons during gameplay.

No, but there will be a challenge. You see, the shifter in the arcade OutRun is a single-switch toggle, where Pole Position had discrete hi/lo positions. Will be interesting to see how they handle this, or if you will need to have the shifter in lo to begin with.

None of the home arcade companies like New Wave Toys, Numskull, Arcade1up, etc. were able to license anything from Nintendo. Nintendo guards its IP like gold and won't share it with any other company and they will sue those who illegally upload ROMs. People have modded Arcade1up cabs into Donkey Kong, etc.

There is a chance those buttons are just art work? You select your music in OutRun via the steering wheel & gas pedal. 😉 I think now more than ever it would make perfect sense not to go cheap on the sceen or hardware to run these Sega games. They will sell well, but give us screen tearing and glitchy emulation and My Arcade will shoot it's self in the foot, many won't return to by another. Thanks for sharing!! 👍

Absolutely love Outrun. But "Battle Outrun" was a Master System only release, it can't and shouldn't be on it. Turbo Outrun would be nice, but as you said, it misses a turbo button..

Outrun is a good racing game, but I wish Sega would put more effort into releasing a compilation of other racing games like Sega Rally and Crazy Taxi on retro console systems. The MyArcade model looks like a pale imitation of Pole Position, which isn’t suitable for Sega racing games like Outrun.

Arcade OutRun didn't have the 3 buttons. Plus you select the music by turning the steering wheel. Perhaps they're for other games? If there's a button for music I doubt this will be the arcade rom then

@GenXGrownUp i understand nostalgia, wanting arcade recreation etc... I turned garage into arcade/game room. But everything in it is playable and of human size. New Wave, Numskull and the like are cool looking but useless imo. Coulda bought A1UP Outrun. Flaws but a legit wheel, screen, marquee, pedals ... I see a lot of My Arcade on this channel. Backer?
