I never thought of Teyrnon as one of Rhiannon's consorts. Always had in mind that she only stayed with Pwyll and Manawyddan.

I hate to say "stay tuned for the next episode" but ... It's only a theory, but it makes a certain amount of sense. The name Rhiannon means "great queen" or "divine queen", while the name Teyrnon means "great, or divine, lord". I think that's where the theory began, and building on that, perhaps there's something "interesting" going on as to why the baby turns up where he does. It's not that we are supposed to figure this out just from the story, so much as it's likely that this story is built on older stories - and there may have once been a version where Rhiannon and Teyrnon we ar pair.

I always assumed the difficulty in having a child was due to their being two different species. Pywll was trying to deflect any prejudice from Rhiannon when he asked for more time. Her Otherworld nature may also have been why people believed she ate her baby.
