Is the first season too early for a Starfleet-wide threat? We haven't seen much of the 24th Century Federation in terms of Starfleet itself. There isn't enough ground work established yet. DS9 waited until the 4th season for its two part internal threat to The Federation.

Yeah! Should've had a small battle by Pluto instead! Hehe I'm sure they had grand plans for this to just be an appetizer in an ongoing conflict for later, hell they wanted to blow the borg wad on the next episode and lay out all their threats to coast on for later seasons. Season 1 was way too many cooks throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck but oddly enough it did help build a foundation for later seasons to stand on

I like the episode it was very different than all other Next Gen episodes. But I wouldn't want more of this conspiracy in the series DS9 was the perfect series for conspiracies it would have worked in Enterprise too.
