Vinyl is also talking to Octavia in A Hearth's Warming Tail at roughly the 19 min mark. This is during the story that is being told by twilight so make of it as you will. But She is a pony in this case which leads me to believe she is not mute or deaf.

I appreciate this so much. THERE ARE SPECTRUMS TO DEAFNESS! I really hope this is canon because most kids that are deaf watch cartoons because the visuals are so important. If they have a character that shows that kids aren’t alone in being deaf. I’ve been sick since I was born and I never saw anyone with my disability or anything similar in cartoons. Maybe she could be one of those deaf people who figured out how to talk? I mean, when deaf people speak verbally, it tends to sound a little off because they don't know what tones to use, but it could be something like that. In which case, she might not be medically mute, but just have trouble speaking by proxy.

So, I was just watching that scene in Slice of Life where Vinyl and Octavia are trying to compose something for Cranky and Matilda's wedding when I suddenly remembered this video. Anyway, while your theory of Vinyl being deaf because she never speaks certainly has a starting point, I don't think that's quite right. There may be something else to consider. What if Vinyl can't speak, instead only making mere sounds that aren't even words? Maybe this theory isn't real either, but remember just because someone can't talk doesn't mean they can't hear. If the theory of her being mute but not deaf holds true, then maybe she simply chooses not to verbalize anything because it would be counter-productive.

A different scene in Slice of Life may disprove Vinyl Scratch is completely deaf. When Vinyl returns home and Octavia is practicing for the wedding, Octavia openly complains about the music she is supposed to play. Vinyl responds by going over to her turntable and trying a few things. The thing about this scene is that when Octavia is speaking, not only are Vinyl's headphones off, but she is standing with her back towards Octavia, thus would not be able to read her lips. If Vinyl was completely deaf, she would have no way of knowing what Octavia was saying and would then just be interrupting Octavia's practice. Though if she isn't deaf now, she will be if she constantly listening to music so loud that she can't hear a pony right in front of her.

I am curious about something in the season 7 episode where Twilight is spending time with Flurry Heart. Why are Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake still babies, when maybe 3-4 years have passed since their birth?!?!?! Did no one else notice that phenomenon?! I like to think that whatever the case is with Vinyl, the case is not the same for her human form. I don't think any of the EQG cast has the same traits or experiences as there MLP counterparts. Also you may want to look in to Star Vs or maybe MLP fanworks. or maybe do videos on shows regardless of how well known they are to your audience. or maybe take suggestions from the audience and try new shows.

I thought she may have been deaf for a while, but after watching the screen with Doctor Whooves in Slice Of Life, I thought she was probably just mute. The shows writers played the scene from her view with music, not silently, or imaging what Doctor Whooves was saying, or an internal monologue from Vinyl herself. It had music, suggesting the character can hear said music. I don’t think they would have done that when showing her viewpoint if she was indeed deaf. Then again, we’ve never gotten concrete confirmation of her being deaf or mute, but that’s just my interpretation of the scene.

And we can hear music, that means she isn't deaf, also, in the same episode when she's home, Octavia talks about the music and Vinyl listened it, she was looking down at the vinyls and she heard Octavia, but she never said a word, I think she is only mute

1:55 WRONG for each animal there is special patern which is very often different than the human one. But you can fix it by speeding up up slowing down the human music. However, it might scare them because of the loud and unfamiliar sounds which they for sure don't like.

I'm not saying it's bad if she's deaf or mute, in fact it's very interesting to see more diversity in characters, what with Derpy and all, but she's been seen talking in EG. Then again, the humans are only counterparts. However, the scene where Dr. Whooves was asking her about his clothes for the wedding is interesting because it's as if she read his communication as sign language. But why did he make the shape of a ball? If it was just used as a reference to "wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff" then there wasn't much use to it, and I feel like it's confused things. :\
