I have a theory for Tom. When a rock gets destroyed, the entity moves to another rock. The rock that Rarity saw as a filly's entity moved into Tom. Rarity's horn reactedwhen she was near. Her subconscience saw that it was the same rock so she forced the greed side of her to take rhe rock because she felt guilty about not doing anything about the rock before.

Fun fact: plants can actually show feelings. In a specific anti bullying week presentation my teacher showed us this school treating one plant with kindness and the other with cruelty. The first plant was grown more effectively while the other was drooping. Both were given all they needed to survive but the difference was one was treated well and the other was not.

WAIT A SECOND If there were conscious rocks with only their mind and their magic when one dies (rarity's cutie mark) the mind would die, but where would all their magic go? As seen when the rock died it left many magical gems, crystals. and wat are crystals most seen used as? for magic, nearly anytime weve seen or heard of most kinds of magical artifact it involved a crystal of some kind, which means the phase to of farming the rocks would be to harvest the remaining gems and sell them as something magical which would mean it's profitable to let a rock grow for ages instead of a quick harvest as with our cattle, providing more, bigger and maybe more magical gems then when at a younger age, dun dun daaaaaaaa... 😱, My brain hurts also one might consider the tree of harmony to be a living rock, considering how old it is bearing its magical fruit that is the elements o harmonay

In the same way farmers collect the FRUITS of trees and other plants, a rock farmer would collect the FRUITS of the rocks, not the rocks themselves. which in this case would be the gems. well done. And the same for Maude- but to a lesser extent- not so much breaking the 4thwall, but aware of the sentience in other rocks, like Boulder, without having to break them apart, since- as a rock farmer, she's grown accustomed to the sentience from opened rocks imbuing her with their consciousness to see the consciousness in their own kind?

6:53 -actually, this works really well with my idea of why Maud wasn't originally in the silo when pinkie got her cutie mark. the reality is that Maud is destined to take over the rock farm. she is the eldest, meaning it would go to her naturally, and it is set up by what we see of rock farming and her. all she thinks about is rocks. her one passion is life is rocks. so much so that her closest friend (besides pinkie) is a ROCK. remember when she smashed the huge boulder to bits in her episode? have we seen another pony ever do this? and if you remember back to magic duel, when Trixie was working on the rock farm, she was told to split the huge rock behind her. if Maud was going to inherit the farm, wouldn't both a love for rocks and the ability to split rocks well be the two most essential traits for her? as for my theory, Maud wasn't in the silo when pinkie got her cutie mark because she always starts work early and ends late. this means she was already working when pinkie showed the rest of her family the party, and only came later when she realized the rest of the family wasn't out working yet. that is why we see her in the picture that was taken later and not when the family originally came in.

A while ago, I came up with a theory about petriculture. What if rock farming was actually gem farming? The rock that pulled Rarity to it was dying, and when it split it was full of gemstones. Rarity also perceived Tom as a giant diamond, too, which besides being in-character, could also be associated with magic. Perhaps rocks that are given the chance to mature, hidden from the effects of weathering and erosion, eventually become gems, full of magic waiting to be harnessed - at least, from the ponies' perspective. Those that are damaged have to be broken, as their spoiled magic would otherwise spread to other rocks. If they die whilst becoming gems, it results in being filled with gems, like the rock that called for help and inadvertently caused Rares to discover her talent for sure.

My theory of this theory: when a rock dies it chooses a person to put its magic into, meaning that that in rarity’s case it probably gave its magic to her, and with her not knowing. This leading to the Tom incident.

Maybe the reason people farm rocks is for their minds, maybe the reason is because someone wants to gain mass intelligence or power, and therefor using the minds in rocks. Which have been around for a long time and seen a lot. So by using the minds of rocks they would unlock the answers to many questions. Therefor the rock family would make a bucket load of money, but the reason they probably have a small building is maybe because they loan so much to pinkie for her parties, because they are family you know. And since she has parties like everyday she would need the money for supplies. Or they use the money to get more rocks or more land to raise the rocks on. And maybe the reason they push the rocks from one side to another is so that way they will see more and then know more.

I know it's not quite as "likely" as our other series; this one is more headcanon, but it's just meant to be entertaining instead of entirely making food for thought, so that's okay. I know conspiracy theorists are meant to overthink things like nitpickers, but a couple commenters here are overthinking it a bit *too* much... they're kinda pulling or pushing too much emphasis on some things you said instead of listening to the whole thing. Maybe Houlder Clobberstone had some relation with that Houlder's Boulder. Maybe if your theory is correct then that would mean the Boulder can use magic to protect the whole family. Actually, in one of the issues of the official My Little Pony comic, there is a sentient rock that can shape-shift. Since the comics are pretty much canon, this theory is officially CONFIRMED!

Pinkie pie is the pony who knows everything, but she focuses too much on fun to be snooty about it. For example, when twilight didn't have ANY friends. She didn't have anybody to focus her actually not book-y life on. She only focused on her books.

I think that Discord most likely did something to the statues. If they were living beings, maybe he set them free! Or maybe he just hated statues due to his experience and destroyed them completely.
