Very nice and clean installation. How much is the total cost of Constant pressure system ( Tank + Controller + service ) ? Dont you have a water softner system ?
@oak1518
@oak1518 4 жыл бұрын
This ran around $18,750.00. We Will have a water softener system once the house is completed. We have enjoyed drinking the water without any softening and thought that it was fine. I also have done many loads of laundry and have not noticed any issues with getting clothes clean. I don't plan on having the water softened for any drinking water. An example would be the ice maker on your refrigerator.

Hi I am trying to connect to a Franklin Electric SubDrive 75 which is a VFD for a well. Says it shouldn't be used with GFCI or externally regulated generator. How do I know if my generator is externally regulated? I have a 5000W Generac generator. Can I use an inverter generator?

So you can use a VFD with a single phase and 3 phase motors. Whats pros and cons between the two? Thanks

Where did you place the transducer in this setup?
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
It's in the bunker next to the pressure tank. In this scenario the piping setup is very short and measures the pressure from the top of the well head to whatever fixtures is being run or the hose in this case. Once the house is complete the transducer will measure the pressure of water within the house and adjust the pump speed and run time to maintain that pressure.

@@oak1518 thanks very much for the quick reply. I'm in upstate NY and my well motor (700') crapped out a couple of days ago. We were given the option of this system and went for it. When I got home, I realized the installer simply removed the nipple and pressure switch and inserted the transducer there. Its just before the tank and there are fittings close to it. Obviously not what I see the manufacturer recommends. Im gonna plug that 1/4 and tee into my main line somewhere downstream. Does it make a difference or if it were you would you just leave the transducer where they put it? Also, if I put it before my water softener is that okay? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I see, I am now in Connecticut and working on deepening our well probably close to 700 ft as well. I think that as long as there's no check valve that prevents its sensing the pressure in your system you're fine. There should be some check valves in the system before the water enters the pressure tank. I don't know about a water softener as I have no experience with them. If their check valves that prevent backflow that could potentially trap a pressure signal that might be of concern for me.

@@oak1518 thanks. Yes, there is a check installed before the tank- basically first thing when the water enters our home. No water softener experience? Consider yourself lucky. Thanks again.

I have a subdrive 75 and all of a sudden it is constantly on. Had a company come do pressure test and they said it had to be in one of my lines. I got the base of all 5 hydrants cleared after a couple days of digging to find 0 leaks! Can the control box be malfunctioning? Maybe bees inside?

Oh wow, that must be incredibly frustrating. It could, I have not had that problem on any of them that I've installed so far.

Did you install the tank and controller or did the drill company do it? Loos simple
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, I did not install the controller or the well pump but I did install the tank and supply power to the controller. It was a very easy install. I can't tell you how great a constant pressure well is. We have another property that has a conventional well and I feel like I'm constantly battling the household for water pressure! Good luck with your project and thanks for watching.

What does it take to upgrade an existing standard system? Does it require a new pump?
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
It does normally require a new pump. A conventional pump is not designed to be soft started and then run continuously every time a faucet is turned on. To convert an existing well you need to ensure you have enough production on that well. A constant pressure well system relies on a high production well. For example I have a 1.5 gallon per minute producing well and am unable to convert it to constant pressure without increasing its production somehow. One way would be to frack it and drill it deeper. The problem is with this scenario and this particular well that I'm talking about it's already 400 ft deep. The deeper the well the larger the well pump you'll need for a constant pressure system. Some of the pumps are designed to maintain pressure with the depths of 1,000' but it's a very large pump and motor combination. Example 2, a well produces 10+ gallons a minute and there's plenty of water, You would need a new well pump, motor and motor controller. Your surge tank could be kept the same but why not save the space in your basement and put the smaller tank in. I would reach out to your local well company and inquire about what volume of production they would feel comfortable putting a constant pressure well had set up on. We're getting ready to drill another well in the Northeast part of the country and have our fingers crossed for a high production well so that we could go with the constant pressure system. Hope that helps and good luck with your project!

Would a larger storage tank add any benefit?
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
No it would not, the storage tank in this scenario is only to absorb the surge from the pump starting and stopping. The pump is providing all of the water pressure in the system. As the pump starts and stops it is a soft start pump but still has some surging pressure that will be absorbed by the small pressure tank.

What about a 3 bedroom house? Is the extra expense necessary?
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed your initial post. It has to do with how many bathroom or water fixtures you have. The more showers and the more people taking a shower and running water will affect the pressure and if you have a regular stream of people showering at the same time or doing dishes and laundry at the same time and then wanting to also shower then the constant pressure systems is a and no brainer. The other factor is do you have enough hot water to support all those activities lol.

Why not just install a large water storage tank...once the tank is filled, doesn't that reduce wear on the well pump?
@oak1518
@oak1518 3 жыл бұрын
When I think of a large water storage tank I'm thinking 500+ gallons. Considerations with keeping that much water would be bacteria formation. The tank itself would need to be insulated in the winter climates, storage of said tank, either above ground or below ground would also be a factor. If you're talking about a tank under a hundred gallons then that is also a viable option but again to reduce the storage space I opted for a small surge tank. The pump and motor are designed to run continuously. If you were to put this in a house you would remove the benefit of that feature by putting in a large tank, the feature being the small footprint that it takes up. I appreciate your feedback and interested to hear about your setup!

That's very interesting, I would say for the uranium use reverse osmosis. Probably not the cheapest option but maybe it is cheaper over the long run than buying water. I would suggest checking the concentration of uranium in the water, I do believe your skin could have some uptake. Not a biologist by any stretch but I am actually very familiar with uranium and would say you may look into that a little bit more.
