Constantine is all skill, no battery. The Fate artefact is all oomph, a giant divinely-ordained spout of magic. It's even more overpowered than it sounds. Thankfully the reality is that Constantine is Chaotic Good and Fate (Nabu) is fanatically Lawful Good. This shit doesn't happen outside of a crisis, 'cuz they'd kill eachother (soul destruction, mind control) if left alone for 30 seconds.

Not really. CW-Constantine, infact the entire New DC version is a watered down version of the superior 'Vertigo' era-Constantine. Vertigo-era still pretty hardcore, because it's a horror-comic, unbound to conventional restrictions that the main DC have.

True. You should know about him. Though his soul was damned, but his heart was noble with a fiery spirit. He might be a bastard in the outside, but he's soft in the inside. He's a hidden humanitarian. Magic is not his true power. His true power is his brain. His brain is a weapon of choice. He always depend on his wits before using weapons, rituals or magic. Magic is his secondary, if you know the original Hellblazer not the 52-New 52. John Constantine is another brainy character like Batman. He is witty, cunning & well-sophisticated. A brilliant tactician & master manipulator, but his methods however are kind of nastier. A real nasty piece of work. That is why he manipulated & fooled Nabu (Dr. Fate) before he'll get the Helmet. And that is why he is my other favorite character after Batman.

All of them before this 1 are all darker due of their experience from true events.

I know I'm drawing from a lot of old Vertigo stuff here but Constantine is the only person in the DC magical universe who will always come back. He is the constant one, the laughing magician, the joker in the universal Taro deck, who will be there at the end, clowning for the King and Queen and a visiting Tim Hunter right before the end of time. He is the only person able to ride the synchronicity highway without being destroyed. His friends may die, his enemies may beat him to a pulp, and he may lose completely, but he will always survive. Superman stays the same age from comic to comic, but did die at one point. Same with batman. But Constantine got older with every issue of Hellblazer and never died (until the end, and then not really) I know that they ended Hellblazer years ago and Constantine is now firmly within the DC universe, but the writers still remember him for what he was.
