I am in greece right now, went to a few byzantine museums. You would be surprised but honestly Byzantine/Roman Artwork/Building/Pottery its all the same nothing changed. The only thing changed is the paintings of christ vs Statues.

So it is better to have someone to help in this matter. In this case, preventing the Rus' from coming to Constantinople when the relations between the Romans and Rus' go soured.
