DPM kits are fun to assemble and look great. These tips from Miles (and Fran at live clinics) are worth a million bucks. I use an outline of the steps in this video, plus info from the DPM instruction sheets as a checklist so I don't miss anything. They work for other projects, too. Thanks for making the video available!

I cannot believe how much I learned from this interesting and informative video starting from the sanding platform in the tool section. All my brick buildings are one solid color except for the roof and all the trim work, I never realized that buildings were 2 varients of quality brick. Thank you for a total learning experience!

These are awesome tutorial videos for beginner or expert alike! I've been in the Hobby since 1975, and found this a great refresher course. I noticed that a few other experienced modelers have commented here as well. I wish more were coming.... I also wish that *some* mass producer (hint!!) would start making some buildings and vehicles from the late 1970's to at LEAST the late 1990's. *We're the group* getting older now..... Thanks! I purchased one piece of .040 HO corrugated plastic I use as a mold. I squirt a generous amount of Elmer's glue (PVA) and wait for it to completely dry after first treating the plastic with some dish detergent to reduce surface tension. Then squirt a second coat of Elmer's glue (PVA) & wait for it to dry. Then I carefully peel off the glue layer and use it as I would have used the plastic corrugated piece. Paint it grey or silver and add weathering and glue it to a piece of card to add rigidity. I also make my own rust powder from 0000 steel wool in a jar of vinegar. Cheers - TN

Fantastic video - great to get a good close up look at how the kits ‘work’ before plonking my dollars down on an international mail order. Love the explanation on detail parts too but unfortunately I dont have a well stocked hobby shop handy to be able to browse while in ideas mode.

I never use an X-acto knife as I always use an A-proxo knife simply because nothing is ever exact, only approximate. I use Precision glue I got from Yankee Dabbler as it has a thin metal applicator & is extremely precise with quick set glue. I also use Mr. Cement and Plastruct styrene cement. Cheers - TN

I live in the UK and have so far built a couple of the DPM kits in "N" scale, whilst I can find some generic rub down lettering and lettering it tends o be of the British/European style. I have tried, without success, to source the ones used in this master class to decorate the glazing, help in finding them to use on the buildings I have yet to construct would be much appreciated.

can i put gravel on the top of the roof
@ModelSceneryExpert
@ModelSceneryExpert 9 жыл бұрын
Kelley Morrissey Adding Gray Fine Gravel (C1286) would be an excellent enhancement to your building. You would need to brush the roof with Foam Tack Glue (ST1444) and then sprinkle on the gravel. After this is dry apply a light coat of Scenic Cement (S191) to seal the gravel in place which reduces the chances of shedding. Another option would be to use coarse-grade sandpaper in lieu of actual gravel. Attach using the Foam Tack Glue contact gluing method (instruction on the bottle), and Scenic Cement sprayed lightly onto the sandpaper to avoid shedding. Hope this helps!

This video is older and the individual featured doesn’t work for us, so we can only speculate why he chose specific paints. Since he didn't give a reasoning, we can assume it was simply the look he wanted to create for the building.

@Kojak0
@Kojak0 7 жыл бұрын
Great question - one reason to why I have never got into the model train hobby is because of exactly that - it's too old. And that goes for everything around the layouts as well, like vehicles (not a rusty Skoda as far as the eye can see) and figures (I mean who, apart form douches wear hats in this day and age?). That is not even taking into account the different cultures - a hypermodern train layout set in say Japan would be wildly different from a modern layout set in the US, Sweden or South Africa. I know there are a few companies making modern stuff, but why haven't it made more of an impact?
@Klingon-pp4fv
@Klingon-pp4fv 7 жыл бұрын
Kojak0 / well for one thing , is that most R X R layouts depict the hight or Golden age of railroading or what we remember of our youth , for example my family was connected to " West Side Lumber " in Tuolumne California my grandfather was a union rep and my father was a logger being a lumberjack one day and a logging truck driver another . my grandma and mom along with several people would go to set up the camp support areas , the cook house , laundry and so on . you can't get more historic then stuff like that . I'm not saying that Chicago doesn't have railroad history I mean look at the Stockyards and the railroading history of that alone . the other R X R history of Chicago would be the railroad history of World War II in connection with Detroit and the military supply trains that they would organize . that's mainly why most R X R layouts are of / or / from older Generations and history .
