In this video, I am sharing my approach to creating a Florida tropical landscape design and how easy it is for you to do the same, I hope this video helps those of you looking to create a similar style for your own yard. I’m a landscape designer in Vero Beach, FL. Sharing some of my absolute favorite plants and trees, I use daily in my designs. I’ll explain a little about their temperaments and what areas of the garden they can be used in. I love sharing plant tips and what works so well in our Florida landscapes. This may be a helpful video for you if you live along the Space or Treasure Coast. Hope it inspires the rest of the plant addicts like me to get out in their gardens and plant. If you would like more help with having me come out. My husband and I own Construction Landscape Co. In Vero Beach, Fl. We offer designs as part of our landscape installation process.

This is great. The best tip I got from this was the wave effect with the blue my minds. I would love to see a video where you are applying this method around a pool cage. Where there is a double sided view.

Great suggestion! I commonly have to work with double sided beds, I’ll be sure to add a video the next time I do one.

Your idea of layering and plant selection looks very pleasing to the eyes. Another layer that finally completes the the entire landscape is that beautiful blue/gray stones as it frames the fantastic scene ❤. Thank you for sharing.

Please do more videos like this one! I’ve watched most of your videos and really enjoy all of them. I happen to be in the same climate zone as the areas you serve, but I’m on the gulf coast, so unfortunately not in your service area. Your previous videos taught me the plant names and helped me identify what will work in my area, but THIS is the video that really helped me tie it all together and gave me the confidence to design my own front yard planting beds! I was struggling with my design, I knew something was missing with it, and now I know I was missing those two middle layers! I have the level 1 trees, have lots of ideas/options for level 4, but I had not even thought about the level 2 and 3 plants for the front yard. Now I’m unstuck. Thank you for that! I would love to see you do more of this type of video going forward, how you plan out the projects. LOVE IT!

Yes I would love to see more! Additionally, I would love to know how far away from the house to plant each thing, how far from each other, and how broad and wide the bed finishes out. I have a terrible habit of planting too close together and having a jumbled mess.

Great video as usual. I love your work. I have seen your video on your side yard for privacy but I would love to see a good example of a narrow side yard foundation planting. Keep the videos coming and I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

I would like to see some ideas about how to adapt the 4 levels you have discussed to a larger, say, one acre property. We are in Hawaii and have many of the same plants. With the increased space brings challenges. For instance, how does perimeter privacy with tall hedging flow to large scale palms and/orspecimen trees and so on? Is the backdrop planting a 5th level? How do we incorporate a small orchard fruit trees (avocado, some citrus) and still achieve flow for the garden? How can we leave clippings and trimmings on site to produce soil over time, but not be unsightly? How do we keep an element of surprise and pathways in the garden but without full-time maintenance? Love your channel and helpful ideas!

I love these palms. I got some royal palms and king palms with some golden pathos growing around their trunks. A couple bottle palms, and pygmy dates scattered around them. Then I got some giant elephant ears and 3 HUGE red banana trees in place. The red banana trees started around 3 feet tall and now they are about 15 feet tall. They are going on 4 years. They look WILD. I got all my inspiration from a trip I took to Bali, Indonesia.

Funny enough I’m getting ready to video my side yard garden remodel it’s about 5-6 wide. I didn’t layer it heavy because it’s right along the house foundation but think it turned out nice with a few other cool features. Keep a look out for it.

Great information. I enjoy watching your videos and they have been very helpful as I tweak an older landscape. Can you please add botanical names of plants in your videos. I was looking for "blue my mind" at a nursery in Melbourne area and they had no idea what I was talking about. An internet serch led to Evolvulus, dwarf morning glory. Is this correct?
@stylewithlivingart
@stylewithlivingart 7 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s right. The very best variety I have found of those are the Proven winners. Blue daze hybrid called blue my mind. If you’re in Melbourne try emerald Island Nursery they are near cocoa and I believe they carry them. Good luck to you.

Once again, thanks for an informative video. I would love to hear your thoughts on deciding what to screen and what to expose or ‘filter’. I’m planning the shallow backyard of a canal home and planning my view from the house and thinking about how to provide privacy from across the canal neighbors without totally blocking my view of the water. Would love to hear how you would approach this. Keep the videos rolling! I love your work ❤!

Great question I might make a video on just that. If you are in an area nearby I’d use Pygmys since they max out at 10-12’ft with 4-5ft of clearance leaving you the water view and if there’s room possible use a larger palm behind the Pygmys like a triple Christmas palm they max out at 16-18ft so two long term layers and great for blocking when they are paired together. Just a thought. Hope it helps

Hello Chester in this video I used the aluminum alloy edging from curve rite at my house I use Beuta edging. I love both products I’d lean towards the Beuta if you have a lot of mower traffic. Good luck to you on your project!

Hey there I use a professional product that’s pretty pricey however I started out using Ideal image they had a lot of options and allowed you to import a photo to work off of. At least they did back years ago when I used them. Best thing to do would be snap a pic of the area and find a program you can import that pic and start playing with the plants and trees in the region you choose. Good luck to you on your project!

Hi, I love your videos. I've learned a lot and have gotten a lot of inspiration from you and it doesn't hurt that you're easy on the eyes. Naming the plants has been super helpful as well. I would just ask that you point out which direction the houses are facing, as sun light is a major part of gardening. It's important for knowing how much light the area will get each day and the sun is in a much different position summer VS winter. I haven't watched a lot of your videos yet so if you're already doing this please disregard. Thank you and I hope you are here for many years to come. P.s. I'm in zone 10a.
