I requested this a short while ago after I watched your GT video. Im just finishing PhD using CGT and it definitely feels like a jigsaw without the picture. I would love some help with my Discussion chapter please. My supervisor wants me to look at other existing theories and compare mine to those. But how many? What sort of questions should I ask of the theory etc. Also struggling to represent the theory in a visual. Thank you Also Charmaz refers to Concepts rather than Themes but im thinking they are the same thing right?

I'm glad you found the GT video helpful! When comparing your findings to existing theories, it’s best to focus on a few key ones that are directly relevant to your research question and findings. Think about theories that offer contrasting or complementary perspectives to your own work. In terms of questions to ask of the theory, you might consider: - How does this theory align with or challenge your findings? - Are there any key concepts that overlap or conflict with the ideas you've developed? - How do the underlying assumptions of the theory compare with your own? Regarding visual representation, it could help to focus on the relationships between core concepts and how they interconnect. This can be a simple diagram showing connections or hierarchies between ideas, which can help clarify the theory visually. And yes, in Charmaz's CGT approach, “concepts” are similar to “themes” in thematic analysis, but they often carry a more analytical, abstract quality. Concepts go beyond just grouping data; they aim to explain or interpret the data within the framework of your grounded theory. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions, and good luck with wrapping up your thesis!

Hi, I’m using grounded theory, I’m a private tutor and I’m exploring the nature and effect of pedagogical interaction on children and families
@DegreeDoctor24 күн бұрын
That sounds like such an impactful and meaningful study! Grounded theory is a great choice for exploring the complex dynamics of pedagogical interactions. As you gather your data, keep an eye on the subtle themes that may emerge not just in direct responses, but in the nuances of family interactions and non-verbal cues. Best of luck with your research-I’d love to hear how your findings develop as you move forward!

I have a few videos about paradigms you might find helpful if you're giving your project a refresh, this one is a good place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH2uXomkmJqaoMksi=uetfMyfe_0qp9jZ7

Would you happen to have any tips/ suggestions on creating a poster for research in progress? I need to create a poster for a November 24th event and I’m just looking at my mountain of data…😂
@DegreeDoctor26 күн бұрын
Creating a research-in-progress poster can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re staring at a mountain of data! 😂 My top tip is to focus on the essentials. Start by outlining the key aspects: your research question, methods, preliminary findings (if any), and what you're still exploring. Aim to make it visually engaging by using charts or images to represent data, and keep text concise so your audience can quickly grasp the main points. Also, consider a 'Future Directions' section if you're still gathering results-it shows the ongoing nature of your work. Good luck with your poster, and feel free to ask if you need more specific guidance!
