I think the cone boxwoods near the front door look great! They may seem small to you, but the other ones were way too big and look much better in the square containers. That's funny about the light! I think it's fine though. You could put a house number sign or a decorative art piece or swag there to balance things out. It would probably be more economical than getting an electrician in to wire in a new light.

Great video and advice about planting things to save them over the winter. Benjamin is just so darn cute and the joy in your voice when you see him is wonderful to hear!! Good to see Russell getting his paws dirty ;) I think the containers look good and the more you look at them I bet you will like them by the door. Love the bagpipe music for the pulling of the plants for sure!!!

The "purple heart" or "wandering jew" is very very winter hardy. It'll die all the way back to the ground & come back vigorously in the spring. It's a spreader too! Makes a good ground cover or bed filler. They have really pretty pink heart shaped flowers that the bees also love!! I planted mine with sweet potato vines & they've intermixed with each other & it's so pretty!!
@raybennett51096 жыл бұрын
Setcreasea (pronounced set-Crease-ee-uh), or Purple Heart or Wandering Jew : I live in Dallas (zone 8) and mine wither and die back to the ground after the first couple of freezes, but they do come back in the spring (and so do my Creeping Jenny). I’ve got a bed in full shade and they love it, but I have some in sunnier spots and they do just as fine there. They are covered in honey bees summer mornings. And they are super easy to propagate. Simply break off a runner and stick it in the ground, literally. No rooting, no soil amending, just make a small hole with a stick and shove it in. It’ll sit there the first season, but next one you’ll have a small bush from one little runner. And I don’t think the runners root, so they’ll spread, but are easily controlled. They’re not gorgeous plants, but they’re super easy to grow.

Ray Bennett, I love the unique structure and deep purple colour of the Purple Heart. Even if it didn't bloom it would still look gorgeous to me but the little pink flowers are an added bonus. 💜
@Candylandavenue16 жыл бұрын
I'm in Fort hood texas zone 8!! We are about 2 hours apart!! Same with my wandering jew, it's in mostly shade & it does well. I have to trim them often to keep them maintained but they're such an easy plant!

Purple Heart or "Wandering Jew" is not hardy in Laura's zone 5, so it needs to be used as an annual outside however it makes a wonderful house plant! The USDA Hardiness Zone: 7 - 11 for these plants! It's not hardy in my area either.

You can water propagate cuttings of Purple Heart indoors and they’re more greenish and lighter purple in low light conditions.

I love the cone boxwoods at the front door, I don't think they look too small. Eventually you could get a second light to balance things out, for now it doesn't look bad. Benjamin just gets more and more adorable, and he is growing so fast. Russell is such a kitty, pretty funny he was digging in your pot in the dirt, I love his feet so cute like mittens. Loved this video, gives me some ideas that I can incorporate into my own yard and landscape. Thank you again Laura for sharing, have a wonderful day with Benjamin and Aaron.

I love the arborvitae in the new pots and the arrangements you surrounded them with and also the boxwoods by the doors. The single light would drive me nuts, too! We're supposed to drop to 43 degrees this afternoon and a first frost tonight (Upstate New York) so I'm afraid I'm going to lose my coleus, too. I was able to plant my 50 tulip bulbs and 30 allium on Sunday. I still need to get my garlic in, but unlike your area, we've had a ton of rain and warmer temps lately. I also want to say that I have learned so much since finding your channel and have received so many compliments on my garden this year. Keep it up! Russell and those paws. Too funny! Hey Laura thanks for bringing us along. It's kind of crazy you're dealing with and finding aphids right now. I am actually finding them as well and been treating like crazy with neem oil throughout my vegetable garden succulents and indoor plants. Especially that I just brought some new soil home and transplanted with it. It happens to us gardeners and it happens so quickly if not treated and cleaned up before replanting. I always have to treat preventatively here in Florida throughout the fall and summer when I grow because we are still getting temperatures in the 92 range for a few more weeks. We don't hit below freezing till after December into January. You're such a hard worker and I know how much work it takes to have a beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing as always. You're amazing at what you do. I love your little trailers and garden wagons. I've been trying to invest in one for a while but just can't do it right now unless I find one for a good Steel somewhere lol

Regarding the missing lamp. It's hard, I know, but maybe you could try something asymetric there? Symetry is pleasing, yes. But a lot of things are cozy and quaint exactly because they are not perfectly symetrical. Same goes for the entrance with the AC unit. Lean into the asymetry sometimes, and see if you can do something that maybe is out of your comfort zone, but is different and chalenging and therefor, in the end, more satisfying. Just an idea :) Green Love 💚

Love the container updates! You always do such awesome work. I think the boxwood's look good on the porch the balance was nice, it is just a big change from the height you had. I agree with you a second light would be awesome and maybe even go with a bigger beefy set of lights so that you don't feel the need to put large plants in the space to give you the height and drama you like. Rose of Sharon here in Arkansas is a weed! LOL I have one in my garden that was here when we moved in. It takes so much maintenance to keep in shape and it is constantly sending off shoots and dropping spent flowers that require constant clean up. I have held on to it for 5 years because the blooms are so pretty and it is a LARGE plant but I think its time might be coming to an end here.... its just too much to deal with. Thanks for all your inspiration and for sharing your wonderful garden with all of us.
