I passed my exam in October 2020 and was able to get my apprentice status removed because I’ve been in healthcare for 30 years. Even doing billing and some coding with a major research hospital and I struggled to find a job, particularly one working from home. I finally found one which I started this past Monday. I’m training in the office for a couple of weeks but then will go home and go into the office once a month. I can’t believe after that long I finally got a job. They provide a laptop, but I will have to purchase dual monitors, a docking station, etc so I’m trying to get that all together now. I’m so excited. I would love to relocate though and that may not be possible with this job, but I will get full-time coding experience so I can work with that. I love your videos. They have helped me a lot. I used the resume company you recommended and I had a lot of interest, stating my resume stood out.

Congrats! I want to point out that I too passed my CPC-A but struggled to get a coding job as I have no experience in healthcare. And most employers that hire remote coders want experienced coders. I decided to start in billing as I do have experience in and I got a job offer this week. I just wanted to point out that I had hoped that I could work from home doing coding but that won’t be happening for now. And that may not always be option.

@ContempoCoding Жыл бұрын
Certification through your community college can be a valuable step in your career, but most employers in the medical coding field look for certifications from recognized professional bodies like the AAPC or AHIMA. These certifications are widely recognized and often required for coding positions. It’s worth considering taking the CPC or CCS exams through these organizations to enhance your employment opportunities after completing your community college program.

I don’t understand because Victoria is promoting this guy who she has been talking to in the master class. So how can it be a scam? I wouldn’t think this popular KZbin person would be promoting a scam. But it does seem fishy altogether.

I am still waiting on Victoria to say something about this. I did email Auburn University which I should’ve done to begin with and I also looked up the address for this guy who started Preppy. There’s 22 other places in the same building except for his business. Hopefully the school will get back to me as soon as possible.

Victoria has a lot of videos posted with good information about medical coding. Those videos seem legit. I just don’t trust the Preppy thing that I just found a couple of days ago. But I think Victoria is real. I am waiting to see what she has to say, hopefully if anything, about all this. I will be suspicious if nothing more is mentioned about Preppy.
@ContempoCoding2 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna! Thanks for reaching out. The Preppy course is 100% legit, I've been working with Grant for months and keep in contact monthly to discuss student concerns and issues reported through my viewers. Originally the plan was for me to put the program together myself, but it was just too much for me to build and handle in entirety, so we found the best alternate solution possible. The reason you don't find much online is because the enrollments only picked up a couple months ago so there aren't a lot of students that have gone through the whole program yet, but there are some reviews trickling in on the website. preppy.org/medical-billing-coding-certification Currently the program is hosted through Auburn University and we're looking to get some more universities on board soon, but they need to be thoroughly checked to make sure they will provide the best student outcomes.

Which certification is best if you’re willing to work from home ?
@ContempoCoding Жыл бұрын
Choosing a certification when you're aiming for remote work should be based on the demand in the job market as well as the nature of work you're interested in. Both the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) offered by the AAPC and the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) offered by AHIMA are widely recognized and can offer opportunities for remote work. However, it's important to understand that while these certifications can help you get a job, whether that job can be done remotely often depends on the employer's policy, the specific role, and sometimes your level of experience. Employers may require you to work on-site initially before granting the flexibility to work from home. It's a good idea to look at job listings in your area (or nationally for remote positions) to see which certifications are most frequently requested.

Thank you for reaching out and congratulations on your studies! As for working from home, many medical billing and coding positions do offer remote opportunities, but it's not guaranteed right after graduation. It often depends on the employer's policies, the nature of the work, and your experience level. As you're studying to become a medical assistant, adding medical billing and coding knowledge could indeed open more doors for you, including the potential for remote work. It's always best to check with potential employers about their remote work policies, and continue to build up your experience and credentials in the field. Best of luck in your career journey!

I have a degree in rhit, I work as a roi. Both my sil have a degree in rhia. They both work as medical coders, also have their ccs. From talking to them, you do work from home off a laptop. However medical coding isn't for everyone. You have to love to read, learn new things, be able to apply coding guidelines to what your coding and be on top of your productivity lik code so may charts per shifts. Once you put a code onto a dx and if it gets flagged for whatever reasons, you'll have to be able to explain why you coded the dx like that, so you really have to know your stuffed be very diligent. Also, know when to flag for a provider to make corrections on their documentations. Not trying to scare anyone, but I wished these things were taught in school too. For me personally, I struggled with coding in school. Coding is not tailored to just anyone, it's more like an acquired taste. It's not just black and white, lots of gray areas and you'll have to be a person that is good at making quick precise and correct decisions when coding. Coming out of school I didn't feel like the coding classes itself was enough for me to sit for coding certifications. Medical coding is so much more into depth. As in knowing human anatomy and medications. Being able to interpret a real chart not just a paragraph like in class. Medica coders, depending which environment you work in, are the ones getting providers and hospitals paid. This is why most places want you to have some kind of coding experiences before hiring. That's why medical coders get paid good. I had a classmate who is married to a NP, that pulled her into the him department that he works at and she didn't pass the coding quiz, but still got hired and started off at $21. Which is very high for a entry level coder, without any certifications. However she had 1yr to obtain her rhit. Some former students dropped by and shared how much they started off and I could say average is $18+. It's always great to start of in the medical records side first and get to know the ehr system before jumping right into coding. Therefore you'll be more familiar with that hospital ehr system, providers, where to find certain things in patients chart. I've been thinking of reviewing over medical coding notes and books that I have but I am too scared to dive back into coding. If anyone has any experiences where you can relate with me please share. Always wanted to code, but I didn't pass my coding class with flying colors, so I am haunted by that and never dare to open a coding book back up. I graduated in 2017, I'm aware guidelines and of course with covid many things have changed. Goodluck to you and everyone reading this. Nothing against the school I attended. All my instructors were awesome. Just giving real life pointers.

Hello sis..r u certified? Is it possible to get work from home directly after certification?
@kevinhughes34772 жыл бұрын
Is there really a lot of work from home opportunities, or is that a sales pitch that the schools and certification people say to get you in the door? Because I'm looking into it and I like what I see so far, but I really only want to do it if I can work from home. I don't care that much about promotions, I just want to be able to work from home

The majority of medical coders work from home, but landing an entry-level position can be a hurdle.

I wanna know do you have to be active every 58 seconds when working someone told me you need to be constantly active otherwise you'd get a warning? Just curious
@ContempoCoding Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a weird rule specific to that person's company, I have never ever heard anything like that before.

@@ContempoCoding that's what I thought considering no one should be rushed especially when coding because it can be done wrong? Thankyou for taking the time to respond
