Japanese American Internment Doc: The Legacy of Heart Mountain
After Pearl Harbor was bombed, the US rounded up 120k Japanese Americans and sent them to internment camps. The stories from the Heart Mountain prison camp outside of Cody, WY are gut-wrenchingly powerful and need telling. Decades later, the message of how we trample on the rights of others is incredibly relevant.
This scene from the film tells the story of Judge Lance Ito's (presided over the OJ Simpson trial) family. His mother, Toshi, painfully recalls the heartbreaking effects internment had on her family.
"The Legacy of Heart Mountain" was honored with four Emmy Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards and a Unity Award. We're grateful to keep this shameful chapter of US history alive. #Internment #JapaneseAmericans #HeartMountain
