Contra 3: Stage 4 (hard)

This stage is not hard, but the boss is a little awkward due to having to jump from missile to missile.

Fun Protip: The missiles can damage the enemy if they hit the weak spot before they're shot down. (I actually let the missiles finish the boss once.)

Tip: Always have two C guns at all times, when you fire them, hold down Y and repeatedly press X to spam them so hard you can beat bosses quite easily

I view it more as Bill simply defending himself during that part, since he is stuck jumping between the rockets. Actually, this could in itself be a pretty interesting boss battle - survive long enough until it dies by itself.

I have no idea why you can't shoot backwards without moving here. You can't even move and shoot while on most walls or ceilings but for some reason they made this stage super awkward.

It would have been cool if you could lock the direction of a weapon by simply holding down the fire button, so that it would keep pointing in that direction while you ran in some other direction.

This is what happens when you put cinematic flair over fair gameplay. I was playing on the Switch collection, and I chose the Japanese version for its unlimited continues and access to the thirty lives cheat, and that boss was still whipping my ass twenty ways to Sunday. Maybe it's that I'm a young man, born and raised in the 21st century, an era where we can have over-the-top action and reasonable difficulty at the same time, and thus values easier, more story-focused games over the high-octane, arcade-style challenge of the '80s and early '90s, even though I chew through old MegaMan and Castlevania games for breakfast. But, I think it's that Contra just isn't that good of a franchise. (Except SuperC, I like SuperC. And I haven't tried Hard Corps yet.)

Wrong played, you stick only to the spread gun which it is ok only for some parts of the game but not for others you can clear some parts of the game easily and without losing a single life if you had switched for the flamethrower, explosive misiles and autoguided misiles.
