There's a hack that fixes the slow down search Super Contra 6
@BorsaMANIAC4 жыл бұрын
@@CookiesNCreme-ty6wz did it really? As far as I know the slowdowns were happening because the game really did push NES at its limits, and either devs didn't "push enough" because of the time&resources issue, or it is on fact a failed experiment when devs decided that they just cannot push the hardware that far and decided, instead of just scrapping, to make a cash grab. Either way, Contra 6 is a Chinese bottleg. There is no way that those people really did fiddled with a code and/or added hardware to the cartridge to make a game run smoother. Or did they? All the Chinese bootleggers usually did is hack games, remove copyrights, sell bootlegs. Sometimes they crappily ported stuff. The real effort is very rare coming from that front, although there is a good stuff like the 8bit port of SNES Aladdin. And I don't remember a smooth Contra 6 play either - slowdowns were there still. Maybe on an emulator it was better?

this really is quite the contra-versy. nothing like it till when the NES classic had Super C instead of its superior ancestor - Contra

While both contra Nes games are great, Super C is better in my opinion. Even though I like super c better, I do think the first one deserves to be on the nes classic more. The first one is still great in its own right, and had a way bigger impact than Super C.

Looking back, I attributed it to being a kid and not knowing better, and expected to hate it when I replayed it as an adult on an emulator. To my surprise, it wasn't that bad. It definitely doesn't feel like a Contra game, but it feels like a Konami game, if that makes any sense. I recommend giving it a shot if you're curious.

I remember playing this game through emulation sometime during 1999-2001 and thought that it seemed to be an oddball in the Contra series and it seemed to resemble an American movie but I mostly ignored it. It's amazing how different is perception of some games in different regions. While it may seem that Contra Force failed and kind of disliked in official Nintendo regions (NA, EU), in post-soviet market with unlicensed Famicom clones (Dendy) this game was kind of popular and still considered by many as true part of the series to this day. I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't included in that Contra Anniversary Collection that was released recently - even if it's just some other game with added "Contra" title, it's still a decent game and already part of Contra history. It's the same with Super Mario Bros. 2 - we don't pretend it doesn't exist because it's Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic with Mario name, isn't it?

@@GenerationGapGaming yeah in 91-92 when SNES was already released in US and most players probably switched to newer generation, we only started getting Famicom clones and pirate cartridges from Taiwan. Those clones remained popular almost until 2000s and competed with only with Megadrive in households (SNES never gained any popularity). As a plus side, through Chinese pirates we got full Nintendo library from all regions all at once so a lot of late games like DuckTales 2 were widespread and common everywhere and some games like Battle City (never released in US) gained cult following.

This was a very good review of this obscure cult classic. Yes, there are people who liked it. I remember I got this one and Mega Man 6 on the same xmas. I remember that I was kinda shocked there was a Contra I didn't heard of. I gave it a good try and I felt it was way off the series, I remeber I took it out, put in Mega Man 6 and it stayed in my console for several months. I didnt came back to Contra Force until much later in 1995 or 96 when I came home from college. I saw my old NES and decided to plug it and blow some steam. I grabbed Contra Force, wondering why I never played it, the frustratingly high challenge curve early on in the game helped me a lot, now having played harder games it seemed kinda natural. The game to me felt more like an alternate Metal Gear kind of game. I enjoyed it for several months. I feel so sad that I sold this and all my NES games back in the late 90's to Game Stop none of the less! You know I got ripped!

If memory serves, the developers eventually retconned Contra Force to be in the Contra World timeline, but set out as the first game in the timeline placed well before the events of Contra before the Triumvirate stole the alien artifact and started the Alien Wars, and was the origins of the team lead by Bill and Lance, and if I remember Burns was supposed somehow related to Bill after the Retcon, but it was only a Retcon to mask a terrible decision by Konami.

I'd heard of this game and even tried it out once knowing that it wasn't really a Contra title. Interesting to learn about its development cycle. It was never released in Europe and I could see why. The slowdown was egregious and it didn't really feel like a Contra game. Not a bad game persé and the squad formula was later used in Contra Hard Corps

I guess the American Super Mario Bros 2 is NOT a Super Mario Bros game then.

The thing is that SMB2 was originally developed to be a true SMB2. Miyamoto was big about not repeating the same thing twice ("Zelda II" for example), so he wanted this new Mario game to be able to move not only forwards and backwards, but up and down as well. However, that whole Doki Doki Panic thing came about and they hurriedly reskinned the game for that release. This left Miyamoto without a second Super Mario Brothers game, so he took the mechanics of the first game, amped up the difficulty, and put it out. Because Nintendo of America deemed the Japanese SMB2 too difficult for American players, Miyamoto took the Doki Doki Panic game and converted it back into the Mario sequel it was meant to be from the start. Sometimes, things just have a way of working out.

I feel the people who responded to this comment summed it up perfectly.

@@GenerationGapGaming So which is the Real SMB2 and which is NOT a real SMB2? The Japanese version or the American? By your logic, both CAN'T be a real SMB2.
