I almost always at least text the link to a few of my buddies, especially if it's about games we liked or made fun of (and still liked), like The Karate Kid, back to the future (I think u did one on that, but if not, I know u mention it), and especially JAWS, which I think is a vastly underrated game, and everyone I showed that game too, even in recent adult years, wind up liking it.. we spoke about this before, but I think LJN gets a bad rep, cuz they do indeed have some good games, IMO

This was a great watch. Awesome job!!! As an avid MTPO player growing up, this game always fascinated me. I always felt like I was the only person who knew it existed since I owned it. While MTPO is difficult, at least it is fair and incredibly rewarding when you finally beat a tough opponent. You have to have quick reflexes with equally good timing to advance. PP2 is just awkward, clunky and not fun at all. There is no real strategy outside of getting better at the training segments which are also tedious. MTPO is one of the most revered NES games ever and is chronicled so well that it's almost unbelievable how obscure its "successor" is even all these years later. Appreciate the insight.

First off, I love your videos/this channel. I just really like the calm, steady, informative approach and look forward to more. Awesome job every time! Secondly, I may be able to help shed some light on the history of Power Punch II. I know it's the internet and anybody can say anything, so don't know how many people will believe this but I was the person who created the initial Wikipedia page for Power Punch II. I was a sophomore in college at the time and like most people who have heard of this game, I found it from just trying every game in a zip file of virtually every NES ROM. Thing was, I actually had some memory of this game as I remembered seeing what I believe was a review of it in an issue of Game Players magazine as a 8-9 year old kid. For anyone who doesn't remember or know, Game Players was kind of a rung below EGM and GamePro when it came to publication quality for video game magazines, so I found that they would feature and review more obscure titles since Nintendo Power, EGM, etc. would already be running features on the most popular games. Anyway, I was really confused as a kid as to why the game was called Power Punch II, why it had such a low score considering how great Punch-Out was, and I thought I recalled reading in that review about the game being intended as a sequel to Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! but Nintendo ultimately abandoning the project. While working as a research assistant part time, I was just surfing the internet one day while centrifuging some samples and came across the Wikipedia page for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! It got me thinking about Power Punch II and I started searching for anything about it on the internet but couldn't find anything about it anywhere, so I created a Wikipedia page just going off what I thought I remembered about the game from that review. Now, I know people may be thinking I was purposely trying to spread misinformation or trolling but I really thought the article was innocuous because Wikipedia was definitely not what it is now, I didn't even fully understand what it was thanks to it being a relatively new thing, and of course I had no idea what Wikipedia would become. Imagine my surprise in finding out that what I wrote subsequently started to pop up elsewhere on the internet and become fairly accepted as the game's history. Part of me was like, well, it was really kind of a mash up of old memories and assumptions, but I also thought that with Wikipedia becoming more moderated over the years, someone would have fixed up the article had it been wrong, so that made me feel like maybe my memories and assumptions were correct. Your theories in the video I think are logical so it seems like I wasn't that far off but as far as Nintendo abandoning the project based on quality, yeah, that was totally me grasping at memory straws and probably filling in some blanks in my mind in trying to recall all the info in that review. Well, that's all I got and don't know if this helps or hurts clear up the history but at the very least maybe it's a bit of redemption to share this for maybe being partly responsible for starting some of the rumors about this game!

Thank you for sharing your take on the history of Power Punch II :). I have a lot of history with this game hahaha! Had Mike Tyson not gone to prison, I believe that he would have ultimately been in this game, despite it not making any real sense to have him fighting aliens from other planets, especially when he already lost to an earthling in 1990. With Power Punch II, at least the fictional Mark Tyler could be built up as an undefeated champion who never got tested by any fighter on earth. That actually worked out a lot better, in terms of the plot anyway :).

Great vid! I love how strange this game is. It def doesn't have the charm of punch out, and I actually haven't been able to play it yet. But, I love gaming oddity stuff like it. Like what happens when a license goes away? It seems like the nes had that happen a ton.

Don't beat yourself up if you don't get a chance to play it lol. I love the odd stuff too man. Very intriguing. Great to hear from you man.

Mike is just natural brute strength and talent. I couldn't imagine what it felt like to actually be in the ring with him in his prime. Absolutely terrifying.

Heyo Tyler! Ya think you could do a video like this for the 1988 game Godzilla: Monster of Monsters for The Nes? Loved that Game as a kid and really wanna know some stuff behind that underrated game.

I'll look into it man. Thanks for the suggestion for sure

Hmm I wonder if that fight skip button combination counts as a speed run. Seriously great work on your research, though I always feel like I say that, but it's the truth. Shame they couldn't keep the license and just make "Mike Tyson in space."

Another great review. As I said in an earlier post, I never heard of this game. I'd like to try and find a copy to try this game. Looks like fun except you mentioned the controls are not fluid. Still, I'd like to give it a shot.

Yeah it's worth trying it but don't go out of your way for it Mark lol
