Its cool that you covered everything on the franchise, though you definitely missed the fact that both Contra and Super Contra on the Arcades had a *Continue limit* (Even if you did put many credits, both games will not let you continue further than 5 times)...so yeah, its actually tougher than you'd think, even though they are shorter than the NES ports.

43:05 the biggest difference with Shattered Soldier is the weapons system being locked to Machine Gun, Flamethrower, Grenades only. Not sure why you didn’t mention this but it works because of the puzzle elements. Each boss has a weakness to a weapon, sometimes more than one. I loved this game and it needs a re-release. But, Konami is too busy Konami’ing. I did grab new contra mobile bc I’m a sucker. Great vid.

Shattered Soldier is awesome. It's definitely a "real" Contra imo. In the vein of Contra Hard Corps with the pace, challenge and boss insanity Treasure factor ratcheted up to 11. Fitting since Treasure came from Konami.

@@XeviousvSBlackmanta it was cool, the animation is great and I like 2.5D, reminded me of PS1 Strider, but I wasn't very good at it and I prefer the speedy movement of Shatter Soldier. It's backwards compatible on the Xbox One, I should replay it.

I loved the video and agree with your opinions 100% . Thank you for taking the time to make this . I DO hope for a really good Contra game in the future , but I am not holding my breath . The most fun I had with the seri6is with the original entry with my older brother on my NES back in the 80's when we played for hours , took an hour or so break , and booted it up again .

Fantastic video. There's about three times as many Contra games than I thought. I look forward to your complete history on the Rocket Knight series. That series is to me what Streets of Rage is to you. It's a game I'm surprised hasn't had an indie spiritual successor yet like The Messenger did with Ninja Gaiden or Stardew Valley did with Harvest Moon.

I adored Contra and can still finish it with 1 credit, loved Super Contra too (You didn't mention you can double the guns power by picking them up twice in Super Contra) but I didn't play any of the other games. Did have GryZor on my Amstrad CPC too.

Hahaha, those 80's ads are amazingly cheesy! Love them! And what an amazing production! Lots of great,. thoroughly researched information. You definitely do some of the best game content around. But this series deserves the respect you gave it, and I really appreciated how you started as far back as you did, even mentioning Ikari Warriors and its contemporaries as inspiration for Contra. As for the original game and Super Contra, it will always be the NES versions for me! I was always baffled at Konami's choice to use a vertical orientation in the arcade versions. And the only games in the series are Contra, Super C, Contra Hard Corps, Contra 4, and Hard Corps Uprising! I never could stand the boring, vertical levels in Contra III so that's the only 2D one in the series that I can't stand...

Contra 4 is incredible. One of my personal favorite DS games. Fun fact not mentioned in the video: you can unlock both Contra AND Super C (yes, the full games) through Contra 4's Challenge Mode. So really, you're getting 3 Contra games in one. I miss when Konami was awesome...

Even if it is has not the Contra brand, I think you missed to talk about "Blazing Chrome" which is the most faithful game to the series in the few last years.
