I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game. When I was a child my parents took me to one of those "trendy" churches. You know the kind, where the pastor tried to "connect" with youth, and "rap" with them.... Ugh it was so embarrassing by proxy. Well this was of course in the 1980s and Nintendo was in full-swing. He had a Nintendo in the basement of the church and used to sit with us while we played games during youth group. Well, one day he picked up a copy of Castlevania, and of course we really liked it! David or "Davy" (the pastor) really ran with this. I guess he thought it fit in well with youth group as it was Christian oriented, and you were fighting evil on behalf of God. After a few weeks, he started coming to church dressed as Simon from the video game. Eventually he brought a whip, and started to try to whip stuff around the church. For instance, would try to whip "out" the candles etc. He was never really good. One day he was dressed up at Simon and was giving the Sermon (this time in front of all the church, adults etc) and he was trying to make a point... pulled out his whip and tried to whip one of the lights... but on his backswing he caught a child in the eye. That child eventually lost her eye unfortunately. It was real sad, especially considering the insurance the church carried wouldn't cover this; it was considered an individual matter. I don't know what happened to the pastor, but the little girl who lost her eye is doing okay now, and certainly cracks a small smile when she sees videos like this :) That little girl is me.

I don't think either Vampire Killer or Castlevania 1 is a sequel. That's like asking if Dracula X or Rondo of Blood is a sequel, when they're two different adaptations of the same concept. They don't play the same way, sure, but they've both got roughly the same story - Vampire Killer and Castlevania 1 are about Simon Belmont hunting down and killing Dracula, Dracula X and Rondo are both about Richter Belmont fighting Dracula. That's how the official timeline treats them.

@@slopesgameroom As a former and current owner of Tiger Electronics games... not really, lol. They were and are good for a lark or if you've got few other options, but even back then I'd rather play just about anything else. I got a Power Rangers Tiger game back in the day, and while I played it a lot it was usually when my dad was hogging the NES.

The first thing you highlighted about Castlevania is the music! Undeniably one of the best things about Castlevania are it’s incredible soundtracks! No one can attest to this better than the Smash Bros. Ultimate sound team saying how much fun they had remixing Castlevania music. You can tell on what they did with it they had such passion for thr soundtracks as do I!

Where was I when this video dropped?! I am a subscriber and have been for years. This is perhaps your greatest video to date. Thank you for making this episode. Have you downloaded (I'm pissed I can't get it physical) the Castlevania Advance Collection yet? These are some of the very few Castlevania games I missed as I'm a console guy. At any rate, I love it so much I purchased it for my Series X and Switch. That way I can play at home in native 4K where the colors pop like fireworks and while I'm on the go like at work. I get at least an hour and a half paid downtime where I'm not only allowed to game it's encouraged with pay! ;)

"You're a dude with a whip that has to get to the end of the game." Classic Castlevania: Oh sweet child, you have no idea what you've stepped into.

@@slopesgameroom Castlevania is a long and well beloved franchise, it deserves this live and appreciation unlike how Konami is treating it now. Still one of my favorites and would love it the series to come back badder and better and hopefully not like Contra Rogue Corps. So many great titles and Konami would rather they be pachinko machines.

Wish they would just sell the videogame rights of their beloved ips off to someone like way forward. 2d CV by way forward? Gettin' nintendo hard just thinking bout it...

1:58 - FINALLY I see the Konami Collector's Series Castlevania & Contra Collection for PC mentioned by a mainstream KZbinr. Someone recently said that one of those NES Contra games hadn't been re-releases on anything in the last 20 years, even for emulation, and I was like "Nope!" ;) I bought it at Toys R Us for $10 and got a second copy at Big Lots for $2 or $3. Also got the Bomberman Collection and a bunch of other Konami and Capcom games in the same small thin boxes.

Of all the games and all the consoles my brother and I have had, Super Castlevania is still my favorite. I'm 44 years old now and I can still remember playing that game on cold autumn or winter days and really just getting pulled into the musical score and gothic game design. Absolutely terrific soundtrack! Still waiting for a proper successor and I hear tell that Sony wants to lease or buy Konami's biggest properties? If so, I think that could be a winner.

Castlevania’s music has always been such a huge factor on where I rank the games. I always knock a game down a few pegs if the OST doesn’t meet the series’ high standards. Looking at you, Harmony of Dissonance.
