The BRT's expansion into Northwestern Queens was solidified through the construction of Route 61. This project extended the BRT's reach from Coney Island to northern destinations like Astoria and Corona/Flushing, significantly broadening its coverage and footprint in the region. This short documentary provides a glimpse into the historical significance of Route 61, showcasing visuals of its construction process. We hope you enjoy this inaugural narrated short, and please let us know if you'd like to see more content like this in the future.

It’s interesting to note that the incomplete tunnel under 59th Street for the Queensboro Bridge plan was converted into an underpass for the IRT station

Indeed that's correct. Hard to get everything in when you’re trying to clock in under three minutes. Will be sure to circle back around and cover some of the hidden rooms and gems around the complex.

It was slow AF until time signals were greatly relaxed around 20 years ago.

Hey HYRTIG! This video was very interesting to watch. I learned a lot about the 60th Street Tunnel and its complexity in the East River. Can you do more WTAE content?, especially the 6 train?

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the short! Producing route remixes is indeed a time-intensive process, involving track prints, schematics, and thorough research. We're committed to continuing this series, and next up, we plan to complete the A train with a Metro North route for Volume 4. We'll come back to the IRT after. In the meantime, we can cover the Pelham line in our shorts format. Is there a specific area along the line that you'd like to learn more about? Let us know!

There's a second tunnel from 59street lex station. It's a ramp u can see on the Astoria bound train at 59st lex station. It was built so that trains after lex Ave would climb a ramp to a open linking the trains back on the queensbourgh bridge. However it was scrapped. What remains is a ramp and an island platform behind the door you can see at 59th Street on the Astoria bound side. There be even 3 however the second is right next to the 60th. The second was built around 1941 just before they was stopping service over the bridge in 1942. The platform is still there's so is the ramp leading up to the. Bridge.
