The clever thing is you have preferred mechanical way rather than electronics. Very clever.

Because electronic switching of high frequency differential signal (USB 2.0) can get quite complicated.

Great job. I was having a hard time finding a USB switch with a remote switch like this. I think I'll build as you suggested.

Really good DIY setup. Apparently when using KZbin in anonymous, in another browser, whilst searching for DIY computer stuff, the almighty algorithm actually does a great job. I signed in to leave this comment, and a Like.

Thanks for posting, I was wondering if there could be an issue just using a simple switch to change where the usb go. I was wondering, why not using a 4P2T instead of a 4P3T ? Maybe a future-proof option ? also, I was thinking, many people did a 2 usb input but you are right, a usb hub is better. since I got one spare that is a very old one... and also a bunch of female usb lying around, I'll do the same as you did. I really like the fact you put up a pinout diagram and explaining it. Not everyone do that, and it's really convenient. Best regards

you really should post where you got the parts. im over here working on this using 4p3t but instead of having holes where the wires go its just solid. :(

Hello man, thanks for the tutorial; could it be possible with a 3 contact 4 position switch (its the one i have at home)? with 1 to 4 for A, 5 to 8 for B and 9 to 12 for C, i dont really know how the positions wiring is working tho. i was thinking to link USB Female VCC to 1, D- to 2, D+ to 3 and ground to 4, then link in the same order USB Male 1 to B (5 to 8) and USB Male 2 to C (9 to 12). How would you wire it if its possible? Thanks, keep up the good work
@cavy-lab3146
@cavy-lab3146 Жыл бұрын
Could be possible but I'm not sure about the pinout, you should check the pinout with multimeter, For 3 contacts switch I would use each contact for Vcc, D+ and D- the ground could be connect together, Careful about the 4 position though most audio selector are make-before-break meaning adjacent position will be shorted momentary during switching, My selector is 3 position so I only use 1 and 3 skipping the 2 position. Sorry for late reply, Thanks for watching.

You could use 2 sets of speakers connected to each pc audio output and the only sound you will hear is the Windows USB device attached/detached sound. Or just use a Bluetooth speaker with multiple device pairing.

Nice DYI, I like the simple and very cost affective project of yours..Thanks for sharing your video.. I need some help with my KVM switch that i have already purchased, would be great if you can help in identifying the issue and let me know what needs to be done to resolve the issue. Let me know and i will share my e-mail.. Thank you

What do you do with the shielding on the USB cables? Do you leave them unconnected, or maybe join them all together? Thanks!

Hi, nice work mate, just want to ask is this save for our computer, i mean i watch other videos similar like you [ yt id: j-ySUHcP6Tw ] in comment someone said it need diode or something (they said can burn something), do this one also need diode or not? thank you?
@cavy-lab3146
@cavy-lab3146 3 жыл бұрын
That's why I use a 3 position selector instead of 2 because of how the audio selector design is a make-before-break operation. That is, the pin of 1 - 2 or 2 - 3 will be momentarily shorted during switching, so I skip position 2 to prevent shorting +5V of each computer together. If you would like to use all the positions of the switch then you need a diode but that will drop a 5V supply voltage of about 0.7v (depend on the diode type) and some USB devices may not operate properly. Sorry for the late reply. Thank you.
