I have a question about midi mapping.... If I have a controller that is mapped specifically for a certain software can I use that same controller for another (ie OBS) without the original software controls being affected? Example: I have a DJ controller that works natively with Serato, can I use that controller to also operate within OBS? From what I'm understanding standing, I can. However, the controller will only be using whatever software is opened, correct? If so, what if I opened both softwares with the controller connected to my computer and both softwares opened and being used simultaneously will the controller only operate the main window that is opened?
@GuillaumeLortie3 жыл бұрын
that’s a really good question! the controller don’t know what software is on the other end and what software is listening to the midi commends. I never used a Serato controller my self but i saw it been used many times. I think those remote have a listen fonction too, when you press something and the software register the state of something been changed, if feed information back to the controller and turn on some lights or display some informations. if both Serato and OBS run at the same time and listen to your controllers, every action that you will send will be heard by both software and action will be triggered. fun result can be expected depending on what you programed in OBS but other then that. the serato side won’t know it at all as far as i know. if OBS send back some information, that can result in midi feedback and double trigg. it can work, just be careful what you program in OBS and try different confit if you get weird command responses form OBS

@@GuillaumeLortie Yikes, im not to good with configurations. Lol I just leave it as plug n play, I'm scared I might mess something up and not know what I did to set it back. I was hoping you might've had something similar to compare to. On the other hand tho, I do have a bunch of different dj controllers some that are native to Serato (plug n play) and some that I can't figure out how to use with Serato. So maybe I can just use a controller that doesn't work with Serato and just map it strictly to OBS. Is something like that possible? Like having multiple midi controllers that do different functions within different softwares? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I've never messed with midi mapping. I know I have plenty of equipment to live stream, using obs however I have no idea about midi mapping anything lol 🤦 And I was hoping to use some of these other controllers to help limit the the mouse and keyboard shortcuts as much as possible.
