Great video (as always). For me the big shift in thinking that happened when I started using CSI was to think about multiple surfaces acting together. It wasn't just my BCF and my Launchpad being separate controls, but starting to think about how to spread the functionality I wanted across them. Thinking of them as a single virtual controller. Once that penny dropped for me it made a lot fo my questions drop away. Be careful though, I find myself looking at ebay for more and more controllers to integrate in.

Another awesome session Jon. I have already got a BCF 2000 setup running alongside an iPad running OSC; the idea being that I launch plugin windows from my BCF and the iPad opens the necessary widgets and parameters. There are some teething issues but it works great and running OSC alongside usb midi in CSI is a dream.

Another option on the cheap is the Akai MIDIMIX. It has 9 faders' and 24 rotary knobs. There is a "program" for control/OSC/web control. COckosOSCII-bot v0.6 . After some googling i got it to work exactly how i envisioned it. 8 channels at a time in banks, there is a bank left and bank right button to move around. The 24 knobs are set up so there is 3 for each channel, The first row is set up for panand the others are programmable, for any action you can find in the action list. I have one knob for solo dim volume 5 for the selected channel send levels. one last touched volume, selected volume, you get the picture. I forget right now but with a couple button presses in changes modes to plugin control, With the banks there are hundreds of control options.

Could this work with the midi control surface app Midi Designer Pro? You can set up a surface of knobs, faders, and buttons to your liking, but making it dynamic seems to be tricky. It seems like an iPad control surface would be the ultimate customizable DAW controller, if you want to get away from clicking and dragging (me) and physical faders aren't important to you (maybe me, in the process of figuring this out).

nocturn is basically retired. Can't be used on Mac anymore except the keyboard version as basic MIDI controller. I still like the controllers quite a lot and if i was mixing a lot on Windows it would probably be worth sticking with it.
