Nice! As a former D1 wrestler (30+ years ago 😊), I have this debate with my son’s high school coach. He is adamant about not reaching out with the front leg side. I showed him videos of both Kyle Snyder and Gable Stevenson doing it regularly (even coaching it). I tell my kid to listen to his coach and I don’t contradict directly but each time I see high level guys doing it (like you in this video), I realize that it is very effective.

Isn’t that crazy? It’s such a cultural norm in wrestling to teach kids not to reach with the lead hand. Just goes to show that a lot of what gets taught in any discipline is what you were taught, regardless of if it’s “true” or not. Appreciate the dialogue!

@@WrestlingUniversity keep up the excellent work! Your videos are great as you demonstrate the applications from a very practical perspective - like watching the East European wrestling coaches - wrestling involving the whole body - not just blast doubles from outside.

Exactly! I’m hoping to bring a more well rounded style to the US. Truly appreciate that Alex.

This tactic works well in striking styles too, and is a key aspect of sword fighting actually

Imagine not using your jab in any striking discipline. This is essentially the handicap most wrestling coaches enforce on their students. It’s such a useful tool. Cool you picked up on the similarity between disciplines 🔥

@@rhysnichols8608 Boxing and karate that sounds fun. Do they seem to mix well? I've been training in Muay Thai for the last few yrs; it has invariably influenced my teaching style and verbiage. Love training multiple disciplines and blending them.

Loved the video, man - does Wrestling U offer any content as far as drills/exercises to work on when training without a partner? I'm 31, used to grapple and wrestle a big over a decade ago, and still in great shape, but I am just now starting to get back into grappling. Anywhere you could point me? Just subscribed to your patreon, btw.

Funny you should ask one of my next videos is on that exact subject, at home drills. I'm also dropping an instructional soon that includes an expansion on the subject. Stay tuned. And thank you for the support Joseph! Edit: in the meantime, check out these videos.. stance work, actions and reactions are some of the best at home exercises one can do. Even experienced wrestlers do these every day to properly condition their legs for the neutral position: Basics of a stance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqW5n4R9eceggpo Actions and re-actions (shadow wrestling): kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2fXoKWFjsp9r68

Great videos man. My wrestling coach was just going over this a few weeks ago but I had no idea it wasn't normal practice. Most of my experience is in boxing but I found it very similar to feinting in boxing to get a reaction/draw your opponents guard up or down to create an opening.

Big fan, what do you think of old tradition of teaching not reaching with lead hand because it leaves open for lead leg attack?
@WrestlingUniversity
@WrestlingUniversity Жыл бұрын
Hey brother thank you for the support. Glad you asked, check this video out, I did a full breakdown on that exact subject. Timing the lead hand reach is actually quite difficult when you do it correctly. Even if one reaches with a back hand its just as feasible to time that hand and shoot to the back leg. Good question: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4HXoWB8idaGms0

@@ruka9097 oh no don't read the whole thing, go to the chapter on gaining size - will only take an hour or so to read the protocol. He'll show you the exact way to eat and workout. If you read the books introduction first he'll explain exactly how to utilize separate chapters together for maximum utility. Basically you'll need to workout LESS, but more intensely and in a very specific manner and eat a TON MORE. Like... a massive amount more we're talking 5-6k calories per day. I gained more muscle mass using his protocols in one single month than an entire year of traditional body building. Take my word for it, it's worth the invest of time.
