It's a great book ! Wonderful resource for people who tend to overthink things, like me lol. It helps you see that if you put your heart into it, you really can't go wrong.

We live in Battle Ground Wa. Lots and lots of rain. We have a sand-based run. We keep adding sand to their run throughout the year. Our run is 120 square feet and we purchase the garden/animal friendly sand at Lowes. Over the past 5 years we have probably hauled 50 - 100 bags of sand and dumped them in the run. We will mound it for them to also dust bathe in. Also add some diatomaceous earth. Once a month we take a heavy rake and rake it out. Every day we take a kitty litter scoop and clean the poop. We also sprinkle lavender seeds all over the sandy run. This sand run prevents too many flies and also never smells.... except a faint fragrance of lavender. Good luck.

Living up here in Vermont last year we had an abnormal amount of rain. We have clay soil and ended up with 6 inch deep sticky mud in the runs. We tried the boards but ultimately we took down the run to let the soil dry. We have an enclosed backyard so we decided not to put the run back up. Our backyard now has no grass and still muddy. It’s big enough so there is plenty of if dry places. This summer we are digging drainage trenches and going to contain the chickens to the back half of yard. I don’t really want to do this but we have hardly any grass. That said all this rain has been a nightmare, hopefully this summer we will have less rain. We are using the horse pellets thanks to your prior video on mud. Thank you for all your good information. I’m learning a lot.

Our neighbors have a horse exercise carousel but the chickens also share this large part of their backyard. When it rains, there are puddles not far from the exercise area. My guess is that the horse poop and their pee gets diluted when it rains and there are huge puddles near this exercise area for the horses. The chickens freaking drink this water. I feel bad for the chickens. But I don't want to butt in and give my two cents. I did once before and the mom politely told me she knows what to do. Therefore, I hold my tongue but I still feel bad for the chickens.

You said you gave yourself 10 extra chickens when calculating how many you had. Well.,……that’s chicken math I think. Lol

Fruitloops! I missed you by 8 minutes. Yesterday was beautiful and I spent it with the girls hanging baseball netting across the top of their free range area. I wanted that completed before the garden gets planted. Today a hawk flew over, we had an 4.9 earthquake about 45 miles away, it rained all night, and then snowed a bit. Your Live is well-timed! I cut out the sidewalls of an old tire and use that for their dustbath. They stand on that or their ramp. They also have a perch, which I moved to a new spot because they weren't using it. Mine just wanted to run around in the rain today. If you have a broody hen sitting on eggs, can you put a newly hatched maybe 2 week old chick under her?

I love your podcast and I want to learn more about chickens and natural health care, if you or your ambassador or subscribers could lead me to some book titles I would be grateful. Please, please, please recommend oregano essential oil orally for chickens, like you said because of sores, oregano is considered a “hot” oil I would suggest if that is all you have then use an emulsifier like Guar gum, Xanthan gum, Lecithin usually 1:1 will emulsify in a pinch use mustard or egg yolk but I don’t know how much it takes to blend the oil and water. ✌🏽❤ Thank you for your generous heart.

I put wood chips from my local garden center into my chicken yard. Both my chickens promptly died. Devastating.. Maybe weedkiller or toxic mould or toxic wood? Lesson learnt i will never add that to my chook yard again. Play ground wood chips arent readily avail in Australia. :(

Sooo, the pine pellets I've been getting that have the added zeolites are a bad idea? They help so much with the smell, even more than the plain pine. But I'll go to the plain if that's what's best for my girls.

You talked integrating younger to older chickens. What about integrating guinea hens to chicken or vise versa I have 3 girls now, want hens

What do you do when you have chickens that love to dig in the mud when it raining?
@daddybenjamin87326 ай бұрын
Yeah... Mud ... It has killed my juvenile turkey. There is no clean up. Their poop turns into sludge. There isn't any standing water in my yard. Just lots of rain and no time to dry. I free range, so, they aren't in the confined co-op on days I am home. Also, I have roosting bars in the yard. If they are just resting, they will jump up on those. Warning about pallets if you have ducks. They can't really see where their feet are going. Their feet will fall in between the slats. Have had my ducks come up limping after doing this. Pallets are great as a base for plywood to stop it from being ruined. Since pallets are free. I will use them to keep materials off of the ground. Then throw away, or burn, then replace the trash pallets.. Chickens earn money! Sell their eggs, Dahlia.

I have a question: I have a 2 year old sapphire gem hen who has only very lightly molted one time. She appears healthy although her eggs lately have calcium looking bumps on the outer part of the shell. Should I he concerned?
