This is so simply said, I wish I knew this before. So much of my husband’s behavior I ignored even if I felt uncomfortable or upset. Because anytime I voiced my concerns my family and and friends just said it’s because he loves you and cares about you. And I was overreacting.

Control caring is making an individual dependent on you, emotionally, financially in whatever aspect it may be.Control care restricts one’s growth and potential. True care revolves around your betterment independently. “Give a man fish, you’ve fed him once, teach a man how to catch a fish, you’ve fed him everyday”. These people would rather give you one fish at a time so that they feel needed and that’s how they derive their self worth which is quite sad and a miserable way to live. Just be kind to them and don’t take it personally and encourage positive behaviour.

Also the first sign of this is when you can feel something isn’t right and just feels wrong but you can’t put your finger on it. Then ask yourself what he is advising here. Ask is this care about me really? Are they truly deeply concerned? How is this going to benefit the other over me and my best interest? Great point. I feel like it's worth saying that you probably need to communicate how you like to be cared for to your partner, otherwise they will most likely get it wrong by your standards because we're all different and show care in different ways. Having that conversation will probably make it easier to tell if they're controlling as well, because if the way you like to be cared for doesn't serve their selfish motives then they won't do it, that's not conclusive enough on it's own to define them as controlling, but it could be a helpful indicator.

You can do it, start practicing life without him. Just take baby steps if you only watch movies with him start watching Netflix without him. if you use to him putting gas in the car, go without him and put your own gas. If he pays the phone bill find out how much it is and pay your own phone bill.

Truth- always felt suffocated and guilty for being a stay at home mom to my babies. I was taken care of with condition & extremely controlled. He didn’t like how much i loved staying home raising my family - he wanted me to be miserable and unhappy. His “I’ll take care of you” was conditional. 10 yrs HAPPily divorced.

This was my mother. She cared for me with her control, there were many gifts and a price to pay, and I was stunted in my growth. And I see that my mom was so scared and fearful and soothing and protecting herself to make herself feel good. She was showing the most compassion for herself and loving me the only way she knew how. It’s taken along time (I’m 63) but because of ACIM, I understand, and “an ancient hatred has turned into a current love” thank you to myself for not giving up, and thank you mom! You are a gift.

It came up in different places, Government, office units, religious institutions, and family structures. The realization came to me after 53 years. We face the evil that dwells in us in great quantity or in small quantity. Only truth can overcome evil. Showing consistant truth, regardless of what it costs, is the hardest thing a person can do. Real.

Yup. My husband will serve a very confusing Word salad circular argument full of anger, rage, blameshift, then gaslight until I’m utterly exhausted and emotionally worn down. Then he will give the silent treatment until I’m just not talking anymore and then he’ll take care of things around the house, take care of my car but won’t pay attention to the issue that I made clear initially. It’s just a mind F and I want out.

What is really troubling is the imaging of perception of self we can find online about ourselves vs the content of our own perception we set about ourselves online to actual testimony of our life and experiences. With today social media is controlling our image to others opinions while we post our own and none of that shows the testimony of faith and evidence of actuality. Control in a health care industry during social media explosion is a serious painful issue today

Don’t deny the care from someone you need. It’s about you. If they are gaining something it shouldn’t matter, even if it was never their intention to help. 😊
