Any thoughts on Rockwell's Common Industrial Protocol (CIP)? Not sure how it differs from EtherNet/IP, but I believe it's implemented at the Application layer of the OSI model. I'd like to play with an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 5580 by interfacing to it with a Stm32 microcontroller.. unfortunately, the open source projects I've found (EIPStackGroup / OpENer ), appear to have been abandoned before completing CIP :(

Very good questions! Even today, there are still some misunderstandings on EIP and its correlation with CIP. Let's put it this way: CIP ( OSI Upper layers) + IEEE802.3 ( OSI Lower layers) + TCP/UDP ( OIS Middle layers) = Ethernet/IP. It's hard to find Opensource software to fully work with Allen-Bradley products. There are options such PyLogix ( Check GitHub) to run in devices like the Raspberry PI (Ver 4) that can help you with the EIP stack (how to make EIP packets and frames), and to play with communications between devices. The best solution is to get the software. Today, all software is per subscription, so there are ways to save money and still use the right tools. Thanks for your comment and we hope this helps!

Hi, I'm currently working on this exact problem of analyzing CIP packets and read its data. This helped me in switch configuration but I wasn't able to understand how to read the data, it would be really really helpful if you can provide any more resources for the same.
