In 1981, while rehearsing material intended for the first ASIA album, the band recorded their live performances as they worked out arrangements.
This is a shortened version of the rehearsal for "Déyà," written by John Wetton in 1976.
Coincidentally, it was recorded on June 12, 1981... John Wetton's 32nd birthday.
John was never able to finish it as he felt it "didn't go anywhere," and so it was tossed-aside and forgotten.
It was discovered again in 1997... and 10 years later during writing for "Phoenix" I brought this to John's attention again with a plea to record it just the way it is! He promised me that he would "find it a home" which he did!
A "fly on the wall" recording, this is one of the most beautiful and haunting melodies you'll ever hear...
This photo collection tribute is dedicated to John's son, Dylan Wetton who I've known since he was a little kid. :)

Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed watching it, and hearing him singing and playing bass. John Wetton was a huge inspiration to me as a young bass player starting back in the late 70’s. Now it’s 2022, and he’s still a huge inspiration to me as an old bass player. God Bless you, John. Rest In Peace. I wish there were more videos of him to watch.

So, John and his whole story... Hands hammering piano keys or plucking strings. Your voice it was like a dream... An impossible dream! And your life, well... Was never about the - heat of the moment - Never! But, a circle... From Jill to Lisa. P.S.: João, Finalmente você descobriu que "ABRIR OS OLHOS" é o mesmo que "FECHAR OS OLHOS"... Tenha fé! Bom amigo, Por favor... Continue andando em direção à Luz. רחל
