No. It was Vince Russo who told Jarrett to lay down. The only mistake Russo did: he didn't tell Jeff that it was a work to "lay down" for Hogan yet Jeff bought it "as a shoot". Hogan later lied about "not knowing" about the scathing promo yet Russo documented that Hogan AGREED scriptwise about the scathing promo.

Imagine him standing there in the ring whilst Jeff presumably lays down for the remaining half hour of the show. It'd hit the company in their wallet as they'd have to pay out a load of refunds, which in turn would have probably seen Russo get fired

If you knew what happened in this situation, Hogan had been stabbed in the back by Russo and his arse licking sidekick Jarrett. The point is that if Jarrett is going to literally throw himself at Hogan's feet in an effort to end his WCW career, then Hogan was more than entitled to repay the favour to Jarrett and deliberately injure him for being a slimy little c**t. WCW" broke the 4th wall" so many times it wasn't special anymore. CM Punk's promo from 2011 is still talked about cause WWE didn't blatantly do it for shock value and it wasn't directly in your face. When DDP said in his promo "this isn't a script this is a shoot" it loses all believability. The job is to insinuate or use innuendo to get your audience to understand parts are not scripted, not directly tell us. You never peel back the curtain the whole way.

They didn’t care about anything other than TV ratings, merch sales, and ticket sales. Vince had a deep friendship with Hulk in the 80s too, but he also knew how to keep him under control. Hulk knew that if Vince wanted him to lose then he would book it the way he wanted to. Hell, Bret and Vince had a father son like relationship and look what happened when he refused to drop the title.

Both. It was a work that was presented as a shoot. Russo took liberties. Russo promised to call hulk the next day, Brad seigel told Russo that he couldn't afford to continue with hogan as a talent. Russo ghosted hogan which had all the pro hogan people work him up into thinking he got screwed. He sued for defimation over the promo.

So my understanding is that Hogan didn't want to lose the title to Jarrett, but agreed to it after pressure from Russo (and whoever else) and knew about Jarrett lying down to him. Jarrett didn't know ahead of time he was going to lie down to Hogan so he thought that part was a total shoot when he got instructions from Russo when it was a work. Hogan's initial comments to Russo as Jarrett left the ring was a work. When Russo went to the ring to denounce Hogan, that was a work except for certain comments he made in the rant which were a shoot. The shoot part pissed Hogan off so much he sued VR unsuccessfully.

Hulk Hogan was still under Contract with WCW Time Warner. However, he was not allowed to collect on Pay Per View Money any Longer. He Signed a deal in 1998 that went into 2002. Vince McMahon brought Hogan Back into the WWF in 2002. Hogan was the only guy that Vince paid full price for his contract. On the Last Monday Nitro on March of 2001, they even invited Hulk Hogan back.

Basically the heads at WCW had given hulk hogan creative control. Which they shouldn’t have. But he’s such a huge star they wanted to keep him there so they gave it. So going into this match he wanted to beat Jeff Jarrett and become champion even though he wasn’t deserving of the championship at all at the time. Everyone would basically be mad he was winning the title. So Vince Russo made Jeff Jarrett go lie down and give the belt up to hulk since he wanted it so badly but doing it that was just embarrassed hulk to no end. After this match, Russo came out to tell the crowd exactly what happened and he said hulk keep that belt it means nothing to the company anymore the real WCW champ is Jeff and he will fight Booker T tonight! So he made a new match and Booker won THAT title belt
