Ilia Savosin, roces skates rider has just released heat, the promo for his new pro model m12 to great reception. Is this the inline skate edit of the year like many people are saying in the comments?
He's had an interesting time. After a controversial post resulting in an apology from Martina and Roces, plus two from himself, but he's come back with a top-quality-production edit.
I dive into your reaction to the edit, talk about all it's strong points, ilia's aim for the video, go over other rollerblading videos that had themes, different type of promos, what i hope Roces do next and then give a full analysis of the video.
Echoing myself, the production on this rollerblading video is exceptional and it's very evident. Ilia had a clear vision and intentions, which he's achieved not only through his skating ability but by picking a team to help realise the dream.
The results very much stand apart from anything else in rollerblading right now and i'd struggle to find anything directly comparable to it throughout aggressive inline skatings history. There have been themes, skits and different takes on promos before but none that take on them all so well.
It's great see so many positive comments and i don't think it's too much of stretch to say it's been quite uplifting for rollerblading. There is certainly a few people that think Ilia's approach to rollerblading could have a big and put it in-front of non-skaters eyes.
It's going to be very interesting to see what happens next.

Maybe it's a metaphor about how everybody thinks he's clowning around in his reels and no matter what he does people will still think that. But he has fun getting there and when he gets to the talent show he does his thing, smiles and leaves. I loved it. Production value was great. Nice camerawork, nice colorisation and edit too.

This isn't a skate video, it's a short film that features rollerblading. It has a character who goes on a journey and it tells us a story. The clown is a classic "sad" stereotype and the clown that is supposed to make us laugh only comes alive when he's rollerblading. In that sense, I think it's the perfect piece of media to appeal to the world outside skating.
@TomMoyse
@TomMoyse 8 ай бұрын
Yes a short film featuring rollerblading is exactly that. Would be cool to see more stories told that feature rollerblading. The theme of this meant nothing to me I think he could have substituted the clown/talent show for anything but it suits the skates and his vision so fair play to him. The production and his skating could carry almost anything

I definitely took it in differently. He is the clown. He does clown ass shit and almost got dropped because of it.. felt like a short film on his current situation . Super amazing though. Either he had a make up artist on standby for touchups or he did everything without breaking a sweat ‼️‼️

I showed Ilia's promo to a group of friends that don't skate and they were floored, absolutely loved it -- I also played them Michael Witzemann new promo, and they were incredibly bored. I'm not trying to take anything away from Michael's new promo, but these traditional section-like edits to promote your skate just feel lifeless in comparison. Ilia's promo is genius marketing -- beautifully shot, big tricks that don't require skate knowledge to appreciate, story telling, and humor.

Yea I can understand most sections being lost on outsider if they don’t already have some sort of interest in rollerblading. Ilia’s offers something that isn’t skating, not sure how that converts people into skating but hopefully it does. I showed some non skaters Ilia’s and they thought it was stupid haha 🤷🏼 let’s see how it all goes. I know Nils has hit some very high views with his regular skate edits. Be interesting to see if Ilias can match that

I skate for more than 20 years and in my early years I've constantly been showing some blading videos to my mom, she was sometimes amazed by some tricks but never enjoyed the parts and edits as a whole. And now I've sent her this and she told me that she loved it a lot and enjoyed watching it up until the last second of the edit. Such opinion is a great quality measure for me, as she seen a lot and I never heard from her that she really enjoyed an edit that much. Also I posted it on Instagram and I had a several reactions from the people who usually not responding to the blading related stories that I post. So Ilia had really discovered something about promoting the sport and I really hope that he'll use the momentum and push even harder. And I also hope that all this attention, fame and cheerful comments would not hit him hard and won't change his personality much.
@TomMoyse

Cool to hear. At a base level I think it’s quite simple - showing more than just skating makes it more relatable. If it’s just skating and you’re not into that, why watch? If there is a comedy aspect, that can help, anything around the skating adds another dimension. The fact the production is so high on this makes it an easy watch. I think the theme could have been anything, but a clown matches his skates

This is first rollerblading video that can be interesting to people who are not into rollerblading... This sport needs to go a bit more mainstream it think otherwise we will always be undergrad... Which is maybe not a bad thing on the second thought... Personally I would welcome more videos like this... And being pulled by the horse... FFS this is just EPIC. f*#@£&g love it!

I hadn't seen his explanation of why he made the film versus a traditional edit. It's incredibly smart. I showed my SO and it kept her attention the entire time. I think that's important if the goal is to expand the sport. You have to make it appealing to outsiders, and this is a smart way to do it. With a more broadly appealing subject matter, a short film like this could definitely get more eyes on blading.
@TomMoyse
@TomMoyse 8 ай бұрын
People have tried this route before but everything about this one was a level above. Yea pretty much outsiders will have a much easier time digesting the content when it’s not fully rollerblading. It’s great thing to have to funnel people into the more skate heavy side

Tom i have actually been hanging out for your commentary on Ilia's video, you have points i would have made (& agreed with) and some i would have not. For the controversy that Ilia has created with his other video (i haven't seen it, so i can't comment), i found this vid/promo to be awesome and to be one of the best things i have seen in a while, re: inline skating. And i agree the "ad" format was a winner, i think that this will be a benefit for inline rather than a negative. Keep up the good work, your content is appreciated.

The thing with Ilya and the whole small extreme community in this Siberian city (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) is that they just shot this brilliant movie without any money (actually, everyone spent their own money and time on this). Ilya's friends have a video production company and wanted to collaborate on such creative project. You see also Spartak Alemasov that you mentioned. So many people were involved and what they did - they actually supported Ilya and did the best. I'm sure no one from them will never ever talk so much about Ilya's or anyone's falls/faults and will not try to make youtube views on this. I think Ilya already understood everything from the sponsor's reaction and it's enough.

I honestly think the controversy was blown out of proportion, the way he went about it was a rough tho However. That film is one of the most important things thats happened in rollerblading in years, i can tell already. I was out of rollerblading between 2013 and 2020 and since way back then no piece of media has made me feel like i did back then about rollerblading until now. People are always saying that Ilya is just trying his best to blow up for clout with his content. After this i 100% disagree. I think he's trying his best to make rollerblading blow up again. Obviously that's a big goal but i think he's on the right track

This is outrageous! I am shocked by what I just watched. How could one forgive someone like Ilia who posted a utterly inappropriate and irresponsible video on Instagram so fast. How ever good or bad his video for Roces is I think that he should be disdained for his past actions. I think that his upload of the videos in Instagram was planned to get a buzz around his name and after "apologizing" for his actions he releases an amazing video to make up for his past actions. Becuase the video is so celebrated everyone forgives him and what he did before is overlooked and forgotten. This is think is very dangerous becuase in the end he does not get the appropriate reaction for what he did and sees no consequences in his inappropriate, irresponsible and childish behaviour. In my opinion Ilia does not deserve the recognition he is given for this video for Roces and should be kicked out if the Roces team.

The one thing i feel like people failed to realize about ilia's blow up doll video was: That video was actually an advertisement for a dating app... It was a contest to make an ad for the app, with a cash prize. It seemed pretty obvious to me, that the point he was trying to get across was "join this app, to get a real girlfriend, instead of being a lonely guy with a blowup doll," which would fall along the lines of promotong a dating app. He did it in natural, strange comedy ilia fashion. Some could say it was in poor taste, and i cant blame other people for their own feelings about it. But it was clearly ment for what he intended when you consider all the info.
@TomMoyse
@TomMoyse 7 ай бұрын
Yea I mentioned in the other video it was for a competition. The reason Roces asked him to take it down was due to its nature breaching his current contract with them. Thats something he should have been aware of seeing as he’s sponsored by them. Regardless of what it was for there is plenty of other way he could have approached it .
@mattymatt6970
@mattymatt6970 7 ай бұрын
@TomMoyse ya. I agree. Definitely could have gone about it differently. And if it's a breach of contract, then that's a close and shut issue as far as things go on roces side. I just wish more people were privy to it being a dating app ad. It changes a lot of context of it. It wasnt a video that just came directly from a personal intent to offend. I'm not personally defending him or anyone in the audience on either side, cause it has nothing to do with me. I just didn't hear many people mention that part. If you did, I must've missed that part, but I believe you. You cover things pretty thoroughly.

The video would have been great if the prior week's video hadn't happened. Now the whole thing looks like a sneaky marketing coverup for that video. I assume this was filmed first though, which makes me question if the doll video was there to intentionally draw notoriety in prep for this video. The combo of the two feels mad slimy and it's killing how good the clown video was. Maybe it was truly just two unrelated releases, but there's no way releasing the clown video was incidental timing. Maybe the the controversy was accidental, but 🤷‍♂️

With his style of content he is always going for a gimmick on top of his skating. He defo would have been ramping things up to get attention for the promo, but I don’t think he foreseen what would happen with that post. Lucky coincidence for him, but that can happen with that kind of stuff.
