Thanks for your video. I have a pineapple green cheek Conure. He is 1 year old, full of fun and mischief too. I wanted to tell people just because these birds are not known for their ability to talk doesn’t mean they can’t. My bird already says at least a dozen phrases. He says Treat! Treat! And he knows very well that means!

thats sad that they have been rehomed so often. i also found one online for a very low price and it was right after my first conure Rio passed away.....which was the hardest loss of my adult life thus far. Rio was my best friend but back to my newly adopted conure. around my area they sell for around 700 in stores and breeders around 400 but this one was advertised as 6 years old male and it was like 75 bucks. im in canada btw. i said to myself for 75 something must be up so i reached out to person and he told me he bought him a month prior and just wasnt what he was looking for and wanted simply to make back what he paid for the bird so i drove to the place to buy and almost as fast as i pulled into driveway buddy shoves a box into my hands takes my cash shuts door behind him. the poor bird who i named Green (in memory of Rio ,...long story but in the movie rio the birds name is blue and since gccs are green this is why i picked it not cuz of pot like everyone assumes) anyway when i got the birfd home i realizd how scaredit was how much it hated and still does not trust men. it took 9 months for me to be able to have him com out of cage to my hand. it was a chore compared to rio and very different experience. i found out after contacting ower he said the person he got it from also had got it from someone prior.....i came to conclusion it was used for breeding until lost its mate for whatever reason and was not given time to grive. breeder sold it right away to person who was not prepard and child force handled bird that was tryig to grive and long story short after i think 6 or 7 owners now including myself he has finally been bonding good with me...hes very protective of me. i got him a friend and they love each other but atttimes green will fight the other when im around and if something sppoks them like washing machine. anyway yea i didnt mean to go into such a long story i just wanted to mention about getting birds that have been to many new homes. its so very sad but this is the last home he will go to.....i wish i could make him understand me but hes with me till one of us are gone. thank you for giving your bird the chance to be part of ur family give it time and it will come aroud just dont force it to and he will love you forever. but force handle it and u could have a scared bird for life

If a conure is biting don't hate him/her, find the reasons why, ask questions like, is he sleeping 12 hours? Am I giving proper attention like playing? Does he have enough toys to chew on? Is he having the proper diet? My bird used to bite but I started feeding seeds like treats from my hand to bond with him, he liked the attention because I was neglecting him, now he has improved the behaviour be patient with the birds, they don't know better until we teach them. From a happy owner of 3 colorful pineapples.

@@lucasflips idk if you are still wondering about this but night frights won't kill your bird. The biggest issue is they will be flapping around and frantic, so there is the possibility of injury, but it's not very likely.

I used to have a Senegal parrot when I was young, and she favoured my Mother specifically. Memory may serve me wrong, but I swear I never heard that bird chirp I was at the pet store earlier just looking around, and came across a Pineapple Conure and fell in absolute love, I would have totally picked her up on the spot if it weren't for me having a cat. Not fair to bring a birdy into a home where both animals would be stressed to all hell. Maybe sometime in the future I can own one of these cuties!

My GC conure Cleo was very stand off ish for almost a year and I never pushed her to be affectionate with me ... I included her in all the shenanigans of the flock but I never pushed her to be in direct contact with me Now she is such a lovebug ... she loves to give kisses Fly to me ... sing and dance on me I think it’s very important to give them the space they need and while still giving them attention and acknowledgement in all the flock affairs I respected the fact that she had no interest in being cuddly with me and just showed her love with that respect and complimenting her verbally Now ... she is my cuddly girl on her terms

Awesome video! Yesterday I brought home a Green Cheek and do you have any tips on trust building? I keep their cage open and they either stay inside or outside when they choose so they can familiarize themselves with my presence. They can eat some food out of my hand but other than that they are pretty nippy (which is fine!). I just want to focus on building trust in the coming weeks! Will be subscribing, thank you!!

@BirdNerdSophie 4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for much for subscribing! That would be a great video idea actually.. haha! I would say whilst they are in their cage, sit next to them, but don't focus on them, for example you can scroll social media, watch KZbin videos, chat on the phone - whatever you normally o so they can get used to your presence in a more passive way! You can also try target training through the cage bars and then try it outside of the cage of they are comfortable with it - my latest video shows you how to do it! One of the most important things that I think people rush through is accepting when your bird doesn't want to participate - respect when they tell you know without having to resort to biting. If they move away because they don't want to interact, that's fine! Trust will be built when they see that you aren't forcing yourself on them. Time, patience and reading body language are the key elements to bonding! (Oh and loads of yummy treats help too haha!)

@BirdNerdSophie
@BirdNerdSophie 3 жыл бұрын
@@quack1997 Hi there! I would recommend sitting down with them and watching videos together to research on conures! Also are you fully committed to a bird which will live for 20-30 years? What about if you want to go to university or go out with friends a lot? You would need a minimum of £700 to get your bird set up properly (£250-350 for the bird or more if you want two so it can have a friend, at least £100 for a cage, and the remaining budget for lots of natural toys, perches, playstand, food and treats, first aid equipment etc). Then you'll have to consider that if your bird needs to see a vet, that will be expensive too so you'll either need a savings account or insurance! I'm not saying this to put you off, but just to highlight how expensive these birds are!

Hi! Tomorrow I'm going to be parrotsitting my uncle's parrots. They have an African grey, a sun conure and a lovebird. I can't wait to play with them because I never played with a conure or an african grey before. But they said to keep an eye on the lovebird who's name is summer because she is new to the flock and Alex (the african grey) and sunny (the sun conure) are tamer than summer. But it is only going to be an hour so I can still play with maya and fluffy but I will be leaving them behind because I don't think I can look after 5 birds at the same time 😂 So I am going to watch this vid to maybe get some tips for conures and could u reply some tips for african greys and lovebirds? Thanks!

@BirdNerdSophie
@BirdNerdSophie 3 жыл бұрын
Like with any parrot, it's good to be calm, and feed them through the bars of the cage if possible before you interact outside of the cage. Take it slow, keep calm and read their body language! Greys can often be more nervous of new things of different situations to keep that in mine! Vine balls and cork sounds great! Maybe you can teach them some foraging skills like hiding treats in rolled up paper!

Hello nice info ' I just got a green cheek from the pet store. They said he was a sweetheart but I think they kind of lied a little. So I'm new to owning a parrot but I have done my research and wanted a bird because it's a relationship you earn and is rewarding. So I got this little guy and he has me a little confused on his behavior. Please tell me your thoughts. He has only been with me 4 days. I will not touch him lol he will come out his cage and stay on top of it. Where ever I go he walks to that side of the cage and is interested in what ever I'm doing. He has try to fly on me a few times and I let him climb on his blanket and return him to the cage. He will eat from my hands. Call for me and shows he likes it when I'm around BUT I CAN NOT PUT MY FINGERS NEAR HIM! He is chew crazy I have a stick and clicker that has been working great but soon as he sees my finger ti step up he forgets the stick and treat. So he likes me but I can't do step up. I know it takes lots of time with some birds but I don't know if he is ever going step up unless I risk a bite. Does he just hate being touched ? Any info would be great. Thanks sorry for the long comment.

Hi I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking to buy a green cheek conure. Should I only buy baby- hand fed conures? There's a great bird store near us that has 2 green cheeks.. They claim that they were both hand fed when they were babies but now there are 9 months old and haven't gotten much human interaction since they were hand fed. They seem real skittish and definitely won't come near my hand. Should I steer clear or take a chance?

I have two budgies, one which died just today. The second one will be given to my little brother. I've always wanted to have one big but bigger than a budgie and I feel like now is my chance. I have one issue. A family member of mine has a phobia for all kind of animals. My budgies used to stay in my room with the cage open, they could go out and fly whenever they wished to or to go out to play with stuff. Would that be okay with a conure ? Could it stay in one room even if it has the whole room as it's home...?

Conure has gotten more aggressive over food. Bites more on my boyfriend causes him to get blood marks. This makes him scared of bird that he purchased. We have problems in getting him to go to bed. It coming to the point that what ever we do or have tried isn’t working. Think he has a health problem or a bad experience where we had got him.
@BirdNerdSophie
@BirdNerdSophie 3 жыл бұрын
Conures can be like this - my two latest rescue conures are exactly the same! Is he aggressive over his food bowl or being given treats? Of food bowl, use target training to move him away when you need to put the bowl in and out, and if treats then put treats in a small bowl and offer them that way so there’s no hands involved! What problems are you having in getting him to go to bed? Also how long have you had him, we have had our latest conures for one and two months and they can still express the behaviours you describe!
@gretastamm3694

@@BirdNerdSophie Giving treats most of time we have no problem with. He just goes to bite before even letting you know that he doing it. About food and putting in cage he jumps on my shoulder but I need to get him to the other end of the cage on the outside just so I can put new bowl in cage. Started out with putting him in our bedroom but I told my boyfriend we shouldn’t do that cause no one would get a good night sleep. Boyfriend finally listened and we have him in living room covered. That is where we had our other bird that we had before this conure. I have a wire gate around the cage because of cat but cat is at least 10 to 12 years old. So I don’t think she bothers him but I just want to play it safe. We have to go to our between at about 7:00 pm cause of the tv being in living room. Sometimes we hear him scream a lot until he decides to give up and just go to sleep. But I think he a really quite sleeper & doesn’t maybe get his full 10 to 12 hours of sleep. That could be why he bites a lot. His biting can be very hard. My boyfriend is now scared of him cause of when he bites he usually draws blood on him. With me it a small or slightly hard bit. I do some training with him but he can be aggressive to get the treat.

Hi I just found yr Chanel! Love the information you have! Can I ask what u would recommend a budgie or conure? I had gotten budgies before (from a pet shop, I think 2 years ago) and they were untameable (I tried for 8 months and the birds just didn’t want anything to do with me). I want to try again but will definitely get directly from breeder as I don’t trust pet shops… can’t decide between a conure or budgie. I know this is kinda random question but is it common for birds to get mites / is there a way to prevent them? As if I have I bird in my room I don’t want mites!
