I have a Sun Conure, he is 2 years old and so far my experience: it is a very special pet. They are usually very close to you, they become so attached to you that it influences them psychologically above all (in a positive sense). It is the nice thing of these birds that they never are going leave you.
@emperorofpluto2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Been around all kinds of parrots for four decades but I've owned and raised Sunnies over the last six years and absolutely adore them. Sunnies are a lot more "snuggly" than most parrots because in the wilds of South America the entire flock will roosts in a hollow, unlike most parrots which roost on branches and only use hollows for breeding. Which is why Sunnies love to dive down the front of your shirt and press themselves against your body - they have evolved to feel safe and secure in warm, dark places, plus the bond with their humans is basically the instinct they would have in the wild for their life partner (like most parrots they are monogamous) so two innate behaviours combine to create a companion parrot that is more loyal and affectionate than most.

We don’t actually know if it’s a boy but from what your saying in that video with the differences between male and female I definitely think he’s a male. He also can talk he says “good boy” “kiss” “stop it” “happy” he can also laugh like a human and at the correct timing as well. He’s got the biggest personality and before we bought him we did a lot of research on which bird would be best for our family and he definitely is loved by everyone who meets him. i currently have a green cheek conure, he is very messy as well, i did some research and what i got from it is that the reason all these guys, along with other large birds is because in the wild, smaller birds like my budgies will scavenge for the food they throw on the floor or in the wild the ground. its just their nature. really very interesting to me to be honest.

Should I have their wings trimmed or not?
@alicehypen Жыл бұрын
no!
@chomuu42 Жыл бұрын
Honestly? I used to be a supporter of wing trimming, but I feel like the negatives outweigh the positives after I decided to let my birds' wings grow out and taught them recall. Now I have the blessing to see them happily flying in circles whenever they want, just because they're birds and it's fun to them. They can also now fly to anyone's shoulder whenever they want and visit their bird friends across the room whenever they want instead of me having to transport them myself. Also, I'd like to add that it does not prevent them from escaping if they really want to. When I would clip my parrots, my male conure flew off into our neighbors tree and we had to use a fire truck length ladder to get him down, which I believe would have been easier if his wings WEREN'T trimmed, since he slowly built up the strength to get up aaalll the way up there, climbing branch by branch, and now no longer could figure out how to finesse his way back down😭Even my disabled bird (splay legs) I refuse to trim the wings of, because even though sometimes she will bump into things due to lack of acceleration built up during take off, and I worry that when she bumps into the sliding door that she will hurt herself, it would just make her life even more difficult, and instead I focus on avoiding those types of situations where she can hurt herself. It's better to teach them how to actually fly and navigate their surroundings through recall, desensitization, and constant training than just chopping off their wing feathers and expecting the problem to magically go away
@AaronLewisOfficial Жыл бұрын
Great question but in all honesty it's personal preference. I used to trim my birds wings and they were still healthy and able to "fly" but they just couldn't fly up and be able to escape or hit into things at full speed, you will get so many different opinions on the Internet though but do what is best for you and the bird.

I don't get it but I'm not a bird. cages you can get off fb marketplace. my conure flies over to my shoulder all the time and says several different words, such as hello, step up, kisses. you do have to vet them 2x per year, that's the most expensive part of owning a conure

Our Sun, Screech, is about 23 yrs. now., We’ve had him since he was a baby. How long can we expect him to live?
@AaronLewisOfficial11 ай бұрын
I am pretty certain 30 years of age is the typical length, but he might go a little bit over if you are lucky!

I have a green cheek and he loves to crawl in my sleeves. My budgies and African Ringneck do not. My hubby wants a sun conure to add to our bird and human family.

My sun conure doesn’t like to be held. I always see people holding their green cheeks like a little ice cream cone, but I cannOT put my hand on Rocket’s back. He’s a rescue and I wonder if that is common with all sun conures or if it’s a previous abuse related fear. Also, what cage do you have for Arlo? Rocket has a big cage but he chewed through one of the bars and I need a new one. Awesome video!

My sun comure was abused and I can’t lie her on her back either. She also can get quite nasty during the spring time with giving me nasty bites. She loves to be pet in the head though. She is 18 years old. I have had her 17 years.

Aaron, I've got the same bird with more green wings, i have no idea about taking care of it, it has no feathers on the head, neck and chest, it's getting some but slowly. the problem that it starts screaming or calling like 5am every morning, i don't know what to do and no birds experts in my town in Thailand, it feels scared every time I change the water or give food. please advise

I have a two and a half green cheek conure who is extremely loud and very intelligent, says lots of words and short sentences in the right context. I think it’s a male, because it is extremely loud and has only bonded with me and hates men 😅 but I got it when it was very young and sweet, was only 12 weeks old and I called her Lailah. I can’t bring myself to change her name now, plus she knows her name and spends most of the day calling herself 😂😂😂 but I am super convinced Lailah is a male. By the way, whilst playing your video Lailah kept replying to Arlo ☺️ Arlo is so beautiful 😍 Sun conures are my favourite birds, I would love to have one.
