You stated the best advice for anyone! "Go and visit!" Spend time with a couple of birds you "think" you would like. They will be different. I highly recommend that people research about different species and visit them. It's not all about pretty, talking, or any other "topical" reasons. It's personality! It has to fit you! As a side note, I love the Golden Conure. Very playful. But...(always a but) when I went to visit my local shop, they were boarding about 3-4 Goldens. They were not happy. Which equals LOUD! Looking for attention away from their home turf. So it swayed me away. Kicking myself for that now.

Agreed, people need to make sure it's a good fit. Yes, any bird will get loud when it's emotionally or physically off/unhappy. Beign boarded looks terrible. They don't know what's going on, get no love (from their owner) and are in a smaller cage. So hard on them!

I just lost "Charlie" after 23 years. "Charlie" was a Dusky and quite a talker! - knew about half-dozen phrases, my laugh, my car starting and said her name constantly. She could also bark like a dog, mimic a dog's squeeze toy and all the buzzers in my home. I relied on her to call me when the dishwasher, microwave, dryer and smoke alarm went off as she had them down EXACTLY. Charlie loved people, men and women - which is rare for parrots. We would look out the window everyday and she would go on and on (in bird language) about her day. I miss her terribly.

Compared to other parrots their size, yes. Not so bad compared to larger, louder parrots.
