I could have sworn I recognized you near Alligator Point, should have said hi. Monstrous hurricane..

Absolutely fascinating, but so horrific. That is a massive amount of real estate getting not inches, but FEET of rain. A blocking ridge to the east, a cut off low over Cape Girardeau, so... shove a ginormous Cat4 in between! I am not likely to forget this one, to say nuthin for the millions of people who are now forced to try to recover from it. 😥😭

Absolutely catastrophic. I feel terrible for these people. Hopefully anything else that may form before November turns away or is weak so as not to add more rain where not needed!

5:53 I believe it started the process of an Eye Replacement cycle but never fully completed it. Eye replaced the front wall the left and right wall were replaced. But the back wall never was replaced What may have occurred was it was gonna finish it then the back wall replacement got interfered with because of that little bit of shear that went into play

Hey Trey! Just wondering, how come you never do those severe weather forecasts in :60 anymore? You only did one last December but never did one again…
@ConvectiveChronicles2 сағат бұрын
It just didn’t seem to get the views, and the way the Shorts feed works, people often see it well after the event, rendering it useless. Plus, the long form discussions allow me to really dive deep into the meteorology.

@@ConvectiveChroniclesoh ok. Just wanted to ask because I liked that form along of course with your usual analysis😊

The wind damage in big bend Florida is nothing to sneeze at, but as with most tropical cyclones, it is the flooding and associated hazards that causes the most destruction and loss of life. Terrible situation in the southern Appalachians.

Thank you Trey! I never thought to look at velocity radar of a hurricane. Insane lol

right exit region, cold front, topography, low over kentucky, ridge over atlantic, and a cat 4 with unreal amounts of moisture in between, I'm quite curious, could you think of anything that could have made this worse? Seems like THE perfect storm.
@ConvectiveChronicles18 минут бұрын
It definitely was about as primed an area can get for a big time rain/flood event.

Hey Trey, just a small note: the broad view radar imagery when looking at the PRE is using low level tilts on the escarpment adjacent radars (KGSP in particular) that are blocked by the mountains. Higher tilts would show much greater returns west of the I26 corridor in the NC mountains. Thanks for covering this absolute devastation of my home area and keep up the work!
@williamtrakas314245 минут бұрын
I know you don’t have control over that btw but I thought it would be good info for the viewers.
@ConvectiveChronicles19 минут бұрын
Yeah, I just needed something that gave a visual of continuous precipitation well ahead of Helene, so I (lazily) pulled the mosaic radar archive from CoD. If I was doing a more scripted breakdown, I’d have gone in and done a more thorough job with the radar data.

@@ConvectiveChronicles Just thankful you covered this man! The scope of this isn’t being shown well in most of the media I’ve seen.

Virginia got a ton of rainfall too, nowhere near as bad but it was enough to make the new river go past its flood stage. It was pretty insane storm that brought its effects this far inland It’s also worth mention the tornados we got from this storm. Virginia was feeling the effects from Helene way before Helene even made landfall in Florida. There was 4-5 tornado warnings in Virginia. The day before landfall and there was about 21 tornado warnings the day of landfall and two confirmed tornados so far. And even today, the day after landfall, we had a couple spots of rotation that warranted tornado warnings. There was 2 I think. Absolutely insane storm
