Converge Media Presents: Nooksack 306

Converge Media’s latest film, Nooksack 306, dives into the struggle faced by Indigenous people who are being disenrolled by tribal politicians and threatened with losing their homes and being exiled from their homelands. Filmmakers spoke with members of the group known as the Nooksack 306, who shared the story of their family’s twelve-year political persecution and proclaimed their will to keep fighting.
Following a lack of federal support spanning both the Trump and Biden administrations on the federal level across several administrations, the United Nations has twice intervened, raising concerns about the unlawful Nooksack 306 disenrollment of the Nooksack and related ejectment of several Nooksack families from federally subsidized homes they are entitled to own, without any legal protections.
The protracted legal and political battle has ramifications across generations, as grandparents, parents, and children have been catapulted into the fight to remain in their community and keep their homes, many of which have been in the families for decades. This film tells the story from the perspective of those whose voices have been stifled, sharing their Indigenous traditions and amplifying their pleas for support.

I have a lot to say about this “topic” personally I do not know any of this family because they were not here when I was growing up. there were no Rabangs here when I was growing up. But my grandpa during the 1980’s asked me who are these people? Who is that lady? I told him I don’t know, but their last name is Rabang….he said I don’t think they are Nooksack. He was 90 years old during that time, he passed when he was 97, he knew a lot of people and knew everyone from Nooksack.

Have to one more thing; after my grandpa passed one of the Rabangs showed up to his probate hearing with a hand written paper that said my grandpa gave her 10 acres of land, I don’t know who she was but she was dressed up in fur coat coming in with 2 lawyers. The judge looked at the hand written paper, and told her to leave the court room. This is what they tried to do to my family. I seen the paper, the signature on that paper was not my grandpas. She was trying to fraud 10 acres of land.

They aren't, and never were, eligible for tribal membership - they never met the requirements and were fraudulently enrolled. It's not sad.
