After finding out about Matt Schofield only about a month ago I'm pretty impressed with his playing.. and finding out he does Organ trio stuff ...then I know that sounds like sounds that came from Robin Ford and the blue line.... I'm hearing a Robben Ford influence here....... But he does seem to have his own technique and style of playing just the same....

No magic! A lot of commitment to music, learning instrument. Pure hard work! Our approaches are very similar. Feeling the chord changes rather than thinking scales. So not what scale? What chord changes? Can you hear the chord changes?

Mostly pentatonic. I know that Schofield preaches to build lines around the major third of whichever chord he's playing over in a standard blues progression. But like Mr. Tomo Fujita said, it's important to follow the changes. You don't want to be playing the major third of the I chord when the IV chord comes around because that will sound horribly dissonant, or the major third of the V chord over the I chord, etc. Check out the video here on KZbin entitled "Matt Schofield Sophisticated Blues" for a good bit of cool ideas. Hope that helps!
