CONVERSATIONS IN KENYA: Moments I'll Never Forget

Kenya touched me so deeply. Here are just a couple of moments from a shoot I did last year making a little documentary with a startup that is helping villages with no electricity. There was so much more that happened on this trip but I think with just the stories of these two families you will see why I fell in love with the humility and spirit of the Kenyan people.
I began hosting, producing and filming travel shows on TV, then in 2016 I started this KZbin channel in the hope of sharing stories that are unscripted, spontaneous, filled with more heart and emotion than the travel shows or vlogs I saw that only showed the surface layer or tourist attractions. It has been a challenging year, and certainly as a KZbinr I still have so far to go, but these adventures have filled me with tremendous gratitude and a desire to keep documenting the beauty and kindness of humanity all over the world.
I film and edit alone, travelling the world as a one-girl production company with tripods, my drone and multiple cameras. Although I am Australian, I have lived in many different countries around the world, including Italy, Japan, the UK, Spain and Monaco. I have studied Italian, Spanish and Japanese and I'm usually based in Italy.

my husband and I met a man on facebook, he's from Kenya, over the year he shared his life with us and he fell on hard times due to no water, he has a young child and a wife, he never asked us for money but we decided to send him some to get him through this time. honestly, people were its a scam, how can you trust him, well we have faith and working for christ, we feel faith and compassion, so if thats wrong in others eyes thats ok but the joy we get from knowing his wife and child has food on their table is comfort for us to trust him. and we can sleep knowing at least one family knows someone cares for them. much 💜🤸‍♀️ to you Kylie. i think i kind of like this. as an east african myself, i have recently come to be aware of the white savourism that is running rampant in our communites. i think i liked the way there were represented without a spectacle being made of their poverty. ALL the random white people talking about how they '#blessed' they feel as if history doesnt show that their ancestors exploitation is the reason alot of our countries are as poor as they are...is nothing short of racist. and i think this was a nice job.

I like your work and the video is nice. I would however like to ask a question. From the video, it seems that you mostly encountered stories of perseverance, hard work and braveness despite the prevailing challenges, a big part of which make Kenyans who they are. However, I am interested to know if you had conversations with people from an affluent background or whose hustle had taken them from one socio-economic status to another. If yes, it is that they declined to answer or was this not a part of the objectives of your documentary?

Hi Kylie. I eagerly wait for your videos. This was another short, simple and lovely video of yours. Your content is always high quality. Even though I am not having the necessary resources like money, mentors, film schools etc but I believe that success and excuse can never stay together. So, I am learning film making from you and by myself. But I have a dilemma and only you can solve it. I have to buy a camera to shoot travel videos only and taking pictures is not my concern. I have gone through your website. You have recommended Panasonic Lumix GH4 and Sony A7 for low light conditions. These are DSLR cameras. I want to know if professional camcorders like Panasonic HC X1000 4K Video Camera are a better choice than DSLR for shooting videos or should I go with what you have recommended on your website, i.e. Panasonic Lumix GH4 OR Sony A7.

JITENDRA SHARMA If it is for KZbin then any camera you can get your hands on will do the job. I've even filmed parts of my videos when I'm speaking to camera on my iPhone when it's been to hard to get access to my camera. I bought the GH4 quite a few years ago so you would have to research what might be a better deal in the market now but I would say that so long as you can film in 1080 it will be fine for KZbin. You will probably want to film 24 or 30fps generally and then 60 or 96fps for slow motion so that is a luxury if you can get a camera that has this capability of being able to shoot in this high frame rate. Good luck.
