You also. Need. U drive wheels instead of V drive. Good video

The fact that you were able to get 4043 to work with that long of a liner is rather amazing. Normally people switch to 5356.

"jump up a size" for the contact tip. You're using .035 tips for .030 wire then? Also, it would be helpful to know the pulling roller pressure settings when you went from steel to aluminum. You explained this very well. Thanks.

I'm tempted to do this to an older HF machine that was gas capable and just make it a dedicated aluminum welder.I rarely use it anymore since getting my Prime Mig. Yeah my Prime came with a spool gun, but there are times when it has it limitations. Switching the liner in and out would be a no way for me. 👍

Just curious - what are the limitations you're hitting with the spool gun? Size?

Good stuff! I just got a spool gun to start my aluminum adventure

It is pretty crazy. It's not the quote best way but it's a good way to get started on a budget

i was under the impression that the issue here was the electrical supply being dc vs ac or visa versa. if this is possible ill order a new whip tomorrow and try to set this up. is there something special about the electronics on the primeweld that make this possible. ive got the vulcan omnipro 220 and it does has provisions to run a spool gun. i think youre the first on youtube to show something like this.

Awesome video, I don’t know if you know this but my Primeweld Mig180 came with an aluminum spool gun. This may be for older model Mig180’s and you may have said that so I probably missed it. Either way love your channel man you have taught me a ton and keep these videos coming.

Can you run steel wire once swap the line or would have to put the coil liner back in?
@amcustomfab2 ай бұрын
You can run steel wire but it would wear out faster. And potentially contaminate the aluminum wire if you put aluminum back in it. I purchased another stinger so I could have one stinger set up for aluminum and one for steel.

So any amperage mig machine will work as long as it can support gas? 110v is fine ?
@amcustomfab2 ай бұрын
Yeah as long as it supports gas and you can switch the polarity to the proper polarities. Yeah 110 will work.

Awesome! Glad to see more PrimeWeld videos because I bought the Mig180 based on your videos and I use your videos to learn. Although my focus was for aluminum welding I havet started because I’m intimidated by the aluminum spool gun. Can you make a video comparing the two methods aluminum spool gun compared to mig aluminum. Why would PrimeWeld provide the gun if there is another easy budget friendly method? Thanks for calling out the settings so we can follow along.

Do you need to change the drive rollers ?

Use the hardwire drive rollers, not the flux core ones.

I am in the market for a welder and really looking hard at the primeweld brand. Do you have any regrets? Also would you do the 200 or 285 for a hobby welder
@amcustomfab5 ай бұрын
No regrets. They have been great machines. And even better their customer service is spectacular. So if anything were to happen I know I would be taking care of.

Why not roll the spool back and save that 10ft of wire 🤔

You are correct. That would have been better when I actually noticed that I did that while I was editing this.

can you take off your shirt when you weld next time?

They don't make a dark enough lens for you to wear if I did that.
