Quick Correction regarding today's video: As a commenter pointed out, my example of converting a guitar lead to a MIDI track using Flex Pitch results in a piano track that is not the same key as the guitar! It appears this is a bug related to Flex Pitching Apple Loops. At least I perceive it as a bug on my Mac using Logic Pro 10.6.3.The Project key is in C Major, which the Windmill Lead Guitar follows when playing back. The Flex Pitch data, however, is in the key of G. Which is the original key of that Apple Loop. It appears Flex Pitch data defaults to an Apple Loop's original key, not the key of the Project. Bouncing the Windmill Lead Guitar Apple Loop in place *first* and then analyzing the bounced version with Flex Pitch results in Flex Pitch data in the correct key. I contemplated removing today's video and reuploading it. But felt this bit of info might be helpful to others, and frankly, much more honest! Thanks so much :)

Hi Chris. I was looking for some basic info on how LPX handles the signal path of Midi in and out. I converted from Ableton to Logic about 4 years ago have never felt at one with the way Logic deals with Midi compared to Live. Live has a tool that converts analog mono and poly to midi data but still required much finessing. I use Midi Guitar 2 which does a reasonable job converting mono or poly to midi it still needs some tweaking. Although I didn't find what I was looking in my quick search I blame it on this tutorial. You've provided more than enough information on the subject matter that'll keep my need for knowledge focused for many hours. I'm aware of Flex but have never dug into it as I wasn't aware of what it could do. This tutorial has changed my view of that. Thanks again. I originally found you when looking to replace my UAD Apollo Twin which lead me to buy the Apogee Duet 3. My only regret is that I should've bought the Symphony Desktop but you know what they say about hindsight.

Great video and it all seems to work. The only thing that doesn't is the Melodyne audio/midi conversion. You have to have the most advanced version of Melodyne, the Studio version, to do that conversion and keep it in time. I have the next highest version, Editor, and it won't keep the tempo of the original. Right now, Melodyne Studio cost $899. Probably not something most people can afford.

That's why I switched to Studio One 5 a while ago and never looked back. I've worked with Logic for 10 years. But these kind of things and lots more are a lot faster in Studio One, just convert to midi and your done. I've noticed that Studio One deals a lot better with latency and CPU usage, but that's another subject. Not to mention the chord track, where you can just drag and drop chords into any instrument track, that's just genius.

Horses for courses. Not many project and pro studios are running studio one. Many have logic and protools. Studio one is great if you’re an individual in a home studio though.
@supersonicsroots3 жыл бұрын
@@pete3816 Well... I don't agree, I know lots of Studio's who use Studio One, and it increases. There's nothing Studio One cannot do compared to Pro Tools or Logic. And Logic of course is just for Apple users. Pro Tools is too expensive for what you get. I think S1 is developed much more to work intuitive and smart. Big (label) studio's are rusted into Pro Tools because someone suggested long time back that it would be the industry standard. But it has been overhauled, it's a dinosaur compared to S1. But in one thing you're right; to each their own.
@pete38163 жыл бұрын
@@supersonicsroots sure, lots of home and amateur studios have studio one. And infact I’ve even seen it in some pro studios too. But they’re sure as heck not using it Over protools or logic. Studio one is a consumer product. It’s great. It can do lots. But it’s not a replacement for industry standards.
@supersonicsroots3 жыл бұрын
@@pete3816 yes, that's what I meant, pro studios using Studio One increasingly. I've all 3 of these DAW's. Logic for the longest time, Pro Tools for about 2 years on a Windows machine. And I really cannot think of why S1 would be considered a 'consumer product' over Logic or Pro Tools. And I'm quite familiar with all three. Seems a little sniffy to me, no offense. Like I said, S1 differs in nothing and it's just as perfect for professional productions. And with every new version more so. Can you tell what the exact difference is, that makes Pro Tools more professional or suitable over S1 for pro studio's / productions in your opinion?

This is great; you are so advanced though that I did not catch how to transform the MIDI data to a score, which is my goal. I just want to save myself some work (currently I hand transcribe guitar to tabs) by changing guitar leads to MIDI then using the Score Editor. So ... is this right; once my lead is in MIDI, I just open the Score Editor and the notes are there (in classic notation as well as tab)? I will look at tutorials on the Score Editor, but ... want to make sure I am going in the right direct. Thanks; this may save me $2500 ... I won't have buy a MIDI guitar.

I was wondering if there is a way to translate the ARP patterns from the KORG Extreme VST to a mid file so they can be played by another instrument. I used to do this with the hardware version, because it sends the pattern to its midi out. A bit disappointed this doesn't seem to be possible with this VST version, unless I'm mistaken. Hi Fedor, you're absolutely correct. In my efforts to crank out a video this week I was careless in overlooking the fact that the pitches were different. I can confirm this is a bug related to Flex Pitching Apple Loops. Apple Loops will follow the Project key, but the generated Flex Pitch notes default to the Apple Loop's original key (at least on my Mac with 10.6.3). Once I bounced the Windmill Lead Guitar in place Flex Pitch generated the appropriate notes. This is definitely my bad! Thanks for pointing it out.
