great job with the bush hog. And thanks for sharing. How to decide which side of the hose goes to which end of the hydraulic motor? and as far as the one-way check valve, does it matter which direction to install it. I know that it has an arrow that points to one direction. thanks

I looked at some other attachments and determined the flow direction from my skid loader.

Excellent job! I was planning to do this and you're a great trailblazer! Everyone wants to know what pump matches the motor
@metalisawesome28114 жыл бұрын
You'll buy a hydraulic motor sized for your machines hydraulic output rating. Max flow for this motor is 19.6 GPM, while my skid steer is rated for about 17 GPM.

This is a quality build, I did something similar a few years back. One thing, being a cheapskate I take hydraulic hoses from the dumpster at the hose shop. Cutting off the ferrules and using new ones I reuse old fittings with new hydraulic hose.
@metalisawesome28117 жыл бұрын
Thank you, It works great, very happy with it. The hose fitting are so expensive that I would be afraid of the hose busting later and having to put new fittings on again.

I'm very interested in this and it looks like I'm building something similar very soon but with the idea of it being self powered and adding a solid rear axle to make it my own zero turn mower for a 24 acre property. I would love to have a tractor again but im going to have to scrap yard part something together in order to to be able to keep weeds down.

That sounds like a huge project, would love to see it when you get er done.

How is the connection made from the u-joint to the hydraulic motor? Special connection of some sort?
@metalisawesome28114 жыл бұрын
I just used two halves of a U joint from the PTO shaft.

Someone already asked but I will ask again. For the check valve did you use a 5 psi cracking or the 65 psi cracking? I am guessing either is fine, just the 65 psi cracking check valve will slow it down faster.
@metalisawesome28116 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but I checked my order history and I used the 5 PSI cracking valve. Item Number: 9-7933-8-5

Are you running a case drain or just your auxiliary lines?
@honeylocustfarmer3 жыл бұрын
just the auxiliary lines.

The guy I talked to at surplus center told me I didn't need the check valve, he said the double relief vale would serve the same purpose. He was WRONG! I asked him 3 times when ordering my hydraulic motor about the check valve.
@metalisawesome28117 жыл бұрын
So did it damage anything with out the relief valve, or are you still in the process of building?
@keemosabi057 жыл бұрын
Metal is Awesome, I just got it finished up today and was testing it out. It kinda scared me that it just came to a screeching halt even though the engine was at an idle. Hasn't done any damage, but I won't leave it like that. I'm going to put the check valve in it as soon as I can.
@metalisawesome28117 жыл бұрын
Close call, glad you got it figured out before any damage was done.

The relief valve on mine works perfectly it stops very quick but won’t damage anything don’t be stupid spin down is cool but certainly isn’t required

For your spin down check valve, did you use the 65 psi cracking valve or the 5 psi cracking?

How many gpm would you need to run that ?
@metalisawesome28114 жыл бұрын
You'll need to size the motor to your skid steer. this particular motor is rated for 19.7 gpm. My skid steer is pushing around 17 gpm.

I just finished one up for my Bobcat 743. It only has 11gpm and I knew that was going to be pushing it. I used a 3.15 cu in motor (small one) and it will run it just fine as long as I am not moving. LOL I made it up to mow autumn olive and flowering dogwood bushes on my hunting property. I just drive up to them, raise it up, fire it up, and lower it down. Chews them up great....I then move to the next one and repeat. I would love more power, but that's all I have!
