Amazing! I asked the Customer Care lady whether this could be done by a diyer..."sure" she said. " Takes about a weekend." Well, she was right. I didn't see a part about you actually installing the rear window glass; that's only thing I've really done on my top myself in 45 years having my 1971, and it was very tough !!!

It is tough! I mentioned at the end of the video that it can be a pain to install. I didn't have the extra hands to hold the camera while we installed it. It was too stressful of a time to think about videoing while we installed it :) haha

Give it a go! The instructions that came with the kit were great, and the company was helpful when we had questions. It’s been so long, I don’t remember the staple size.

What is the seal you install around the rear window frame for? Is it rubber? Or metal?

It's rubber. It was a bit of a pain to get it on there! It took a couple of us working together. We also tried heating the rubber to make it more malleable and to get it stretch since we were having cooler weather that made the rubber tight.

OMGOODNESS! Thanks for making this video!! I am about to install one on my 74 Super Beetle Convertible Sun Bug. Question about something... I know Chucks sells 3m Headliner Adhesive. But you used the 3M Super 77. Now that it has been a few years, have you had any issues with the glue not holding up?

I haven't noticed any problems. You might want to use what Chucks suggest, though, if it happens to affect any type of warranty or guarantee. Good luck with installation!

You gave me the courage to tackle this myself. Mine didn't come out quite as well as yours, but I never would have dared try if I hadn't seen your video! :)

Now that the top is on, the frame is covered. I'm not able to see it to measure anything or take any photos. Sorry! You might be able to contact some frame manufacturers and explain your situation. I did a google search of beetle convertible frames and found a few diagrams, but I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for to link anything. Hope you can find what you need!

Since we did this a few years ago, I don't really know a current price. It's also going to really depend on what needs to be replaced on your bug. You could call Chuck's convertible tops, and they should be able to help you with a quote. :)

I mentioned at the end of the video that it took all available hands as it was difficult to install the rear window. I was filming this with a phone before iPhone tripods were really a thing, so I couldn't video and help install. My top priority was install and this video was something I did along the way, hoping it would help others. Sorry it was left out. It was just me, my husband, and my dad doing our best :)

The rubber is on the glass. Now I need help putting it in. I have to invite some friends over for a few beers and then show them my latest project and btw Can you help me install the window? I f we screw it up I won't put the video on YT.

Nice job on your installation, there was quite a few instructions that were wrong in regards to the bow height, and how to install the rear cable. If this will help anyone, always install the rear cable before cutting the window, and do it in direct sun. Also never completely glue the header pad in. Just a couple important points. There were other issues in the install, but overall, great job as far as following instructions. Thanks to everyone for their time. We followed the instructions from the manufacturer of the convertible top parts. Different manufacturers may have different ways of doing it. :)

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(

I had to translate this to understand, but I think you said the ceiling was wrinkled. The inside and outside is very smooth. The inside lining has a texture, so maybe it appears wrinkled in the video. No wrinkles here, though!

Over all this is a good video, however you are incorrect on where to take the measurements on the webbing for the bows. You show measuring at the web straps. This is wrong! Measure at the center point of each bow. If you look at the pictures in Chucks book, you will see this.

I don't have the book in front of me to look, but sorry if we incorrectly told anyone. That's why I don't give exact measurements in several areas and instead encourage viewers to purchase from Chuck's and read his manual for themselves.
