this is a really really important how to video series! So few shops will touch a beetle convertible top and doing it yourself is sometimes the only option you have. Nice work Chris, can't wait to see the rest of the videos.

Hello Chris Vallone, I know what I’m about to ask has nothing to do with this video but I’ve been stumped with a problem on my VW Beetle, for some reason I’ve been through a couple 34 pict carburetors and they have all leaks from the same area and that’s the shaft that leads from the pump on the carb through to the Accelerator arm near the cable. AND it only leaks when it’s shut off! I’ve tried •Adding shims to the float for early shut off •rebuild kit(s) •replacing the (non-integral) fuel pump with a new stem piece. But for some reason it’ll still leak after it’s shut off and then it’ll flood the engine and have a hard time starting

Is there a place to buy the conversion kit from hard top to cabrio?

I find it odd that the front wood bow is what looks to be particle board. Particle board swells and crumbles if it gets wet. Will the top material properly seal this piece from humidity and wet weather?

We seal the wood later on you will see. And yeah that particle board stuff is not the greatest. These are fair weather cars though, so it will not see inclement weather.

Also keep in mind that "real" wood swells, shrinks, and sometimes even twists and warps with changes in temperature and humidity. It's entirely possible that a front bow could suddenly not seal or close properly simply because the particular piece of lumber it was made from isn't inherently stable. The man-made material might deteriorate after long-term exposure to moisture but it won't twist and warp.
