Really enjoyed watching this video. I don't know why because I will never be working on a van. But, I do enjoy watching you work through problems and mostly your photography.

These videos are great Nigel. Anyone who takes on a DIY project loves to see that others suffer the same type of problems and find different ways to procrastinate. You are doing a great job, keep them coming. I know that it will be awesome in the end.

Enjoying the vicarious experience of watching you go through this wishing I could do the same. But then being realistic that I'd drive the van when finished to a nice hotel and park it when I travel. Have to say that for a person with your back issues even I have to take an Advil after watching one of these. Congrats on staying healthy so far. I've noticed you have plenty of others posting their concerns about your health and safety so you seem pretty well covered.

im around a lot of custom car builds, you should really put some sheilding on that cable to prevent it from chaffing and wearing a hole through the wire insulation that could lead to a short or fire. Also, they will use gorilla tape and secure it to the floors to keep it from moving around.

You’re about 8 months ahead of me on this Nigel. Your van ideas look fantastic although maybe a little over my budget. I’m going to spend half the year in the UK and half here in the Philippines where I’m currently watching your van build from. I’ll hopefully be getting my van next time I’m back over there and plan to live in it for weeks at a time while doing landscape photography. I’ll keep watching for inspiration and ideas. Btw I’m from north staffs, not too far from you.

I think I'll go the lazy route and either buy a "used" pre-converted van or just get a conversion van (full size van) and use that (kind of like what Thomas Heaton seems to be using). Or I could maybe go retro and get one of those old VW Camper vans (but they can't drive that fast on the highway I found as my brother has one that was from the late 80's). If I were to do a "camper van" it would be for weekend or the occasional weeklong trip, so nothing elaborate.

I’m no rocket scientist but as far as here in the U.S. heat rises. That means you are going to lose a lot more heat through the roof of the van than the floor. IMO. JUST LIKE YOU LOSE HEAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD and wear a cap. Yes! I could be wrong. Good luck. You’re the best.

Really enjoyed this episode. But please lower the guide on the bandsaw so you have the minimum amount of blade exposed. It makes for straighter cuts and it's far safer.

A roof spade would have helped pull the floor. Roofers use the tool to take old shingles off fast! Did you figure where your water waste holes were going before you put floor back in?

Any concerns about potential abrasion wear and eventual shorting to the power cable(s) over time due to road vibration? Or did you protect the cables where they ran underneath / next to surfaces? It's interesting (and admittedly, entertaining! LOL) to watch someone other than just myself make -- and correct for -- mistakes! 😀 Not that I've done a van, but it does seem at times my biggest skill is making mistakes...
@KnightsandWeekends7 ай бұрын
I'm a firm believer that there are times when the best skill you posses it that of writing a check. Unless you have time and money to burn learning by your own mistakes, not many people end up saving much by doing their own build when you factor in even a low hourly wage, wasted materials, re-work and repairs... you get my point. I desperately wanted a camper van to extend my horizons for nature and wildlife photography, but I also know my limitations in both skill and patience for projects like this. So, I bought one "ready for the road" recently from a commercial brand here in the U.S. All this said - I wish you the best success both during and after! I respect and admire your bravery.

Who was your helper on the floor?
@Mowikan7 ай бұрын
You could have done only 2cm eps closed cel on the floor. Lay down a 18mm wooden board over it. You making it way to complicated. The cables can be transported in all the hollow construction parts of the chassis. Then you can build of your solid floor. All the weight of your interior is now transferred via the wooden studs. Eps is strong enough to cay the weight of your interior

You can't measure things because you are a PhD scientist who is concept oriented. You would have students or research assistants who do mundane things like measure. Shoot even Albert Einstein had a Polish co-scientist who did much of the mathematics checking. :-)
