This reminds of a scene in Doctor Who, where the Doctor explains why he always has a companion with him. He talks about how he's seen so much of the universe, that he doesn't have that sense of wonder anymore, but all the people he takes with him still do. And when they see the wonders of the universe for the first time, he sees that same wonder again. I think it's similar for us. The reason we like to watch others react to tv shows, which we've watched a dozen times over already, is to get that feeling back of watching the show for the first time.

TOTALLY unnecessary info dump lol but there's actually a slight phenomenon around reacting in groups to emotional scenes vs alone. When alone we are usually present with the characters, holding on to every scene (provided it's a good movie or tv show), and reacting 100% genuine most of the time. But in groups we tend to favor the majority of pleasing and appeasing the people around us rather than taking pleasure from what we're doing, same goes for watching media. It's just ingrained within us to be more proactive with having fun with the group rather than take a random scene in a tv show super serious with that group. It's similar to losing an important sports match, afterwards you're comforted by your teammates around you because they feel the same, but when you get home you feel every emotion all at once on repeat.
as usual women not understanding mens feelings at all lol

this!! a lot of folks act like knowledge brings wisdom, but wisdom is something learned more through experience, which the owl spirit doesn't have, spending his entire existence in his library and having others bring knowledge to him rather than doing the work of seeking it out. if he had been a true knowledge seeker, he would have also sought the wisdom to discern and utilize the knowledge he had obtained.

Bitter Works is such an underrated episode. We get peak Iroh wisdom. Probably his best overall episode for it. We get Aang officially learning how to bend all 4 elements (even if it’s still at a basic level), great Toph character development, great comedy with Sokka, amazing character development for Zuko hitting his absolute lowest moment of the show, and we get foreshadowing for one of the biggest moments of the entire series for Zuko (won’t spoil but you know what it is). Only thing missing is Katara/Azula but hard to have good moments for everyone.

So i posted this somewhere else but i though i would cross post just because. Some thoughts in the Saber Toothed Moose Lion. So saber toothed cats are extinct making it harder to speculate and know things about their behavior. But moose and lions are both territorial. Lions will absolutely fight intruders in their territory even if the cubs are safe for now. So that is what i think is happening. This mama moose lion doesn’t like the two lagged creatures who are clearly big enough to be a threat to her cub. So she tries to drive them out of her territory or fight them even after her cub is safe.

The contrast between Katara and Toph's teaching approach is fantastic. One is that of gentleness and positive reinforcement whereas the other is more of a tough love and no-nonsense approach. Both are valid teaching approaches imo. Iroh's lecture was a fantastic way to flesh out the different philosophies and people behind each element and nation! I also loved how that related with what Aang was going through, having to deal with his natural opposite. As we learned with Iroh, it has to do with differing philosophies and ways of thinking or approaching a situation. Aang in this case has always avoided confrontation whenever possible. Bumi back in S1 even said the typical airbending tactic was "avoiding and evading", so Aang is of course stuck with that mindset of avoiding things or finding ways around a problem as opposed to standing firm and facing things head on. Because of that, he was going to have a difficult time with earthbending as opposed to waterbending. What I find amazing is how with his personality and mindset having been established at the start of the show, this obstacle in his training was developed organically! (Also, why you gotta bring Eren up like that?? It's too soon 😢) Aang crying at the end still hurts my heart. Appa means the world to him and for him to just be gone like that in an instant... Saying that Aang was devastated would be an understatement.

A funny thing the last two episodes set up is worldly possessions - aang as an air nomad and should live without any worldly attachments to truely be the best airbender - he can be a master of it. So far he’s been a master because he’s the only one but the truth of it is that he hasn’t fully learned airbending or left behind his attachments. Appa is the closest thing that holds aang to the rest of the world and has deep value and meaning to his own life and to the spiritual world. While aang has human friends his animal friends and friends of spirits connect him to those problems and concerns as an avatar. His detachment to everything he loves is so important for him to be considered a master and at this point in the story he’s to inlove with how thing currently are and what around him to even imagine a change. Even if the war goes on even if he doesn’t win the war he has the sky’s with appa - except this isn’t something he can escape or avoid anymore his attachment to freedom and flying away is not suiting him in his long term goals or any form of change or achievement. He’s not willing to confront and truely take his knowledge and utilize it for creating a change.

However, Prince Baka gradually realizes that he is targeted by aliens from other planets, and he uses his clever wits to somehow maintain world peace each time.
