Understand the difficulty of being overseas and trying to do a build. I was stationed in Atsugi JN for 3 years. Love the build; don't sell yourself short by building it yourself or apologize. DIY projects mean more in the end and you can be very proud of what you have created as it shows in your video. First builds are always the hardest however you built it and know all its quirks, how to fix it, and in the end will figure out what works and doesn't work. Once you've used it, then comes usually the rebuild where you incorporate what you've found you need more and the parts that didn't work out at all that seemed to be a great idea in the start. From the $$$$ you saved by doing it yourself, you could build 2-3 more versions and probably still not spend as much as a "fancy" pull out kitchen that you now would have a hard time justifying tossing it for another once you figure it all out and it didn't really suite your needs. I'm starting on my 3rd rendition of my camp kitchen in the rear of my 4Runner, so I know! :) And I love the challenge of figuring it all out, although sometimes very frustrating. GREAT WORK!!!

Any DYI project has its own temptations. The biggest hurdle is confronting each one AND overcoming them. Congratulations. Marie and I always enjoy your channel and your adventures. Don't worry about the lack of experience, it's great! I just hope it lasts a while without warping or giving you troubles, given that it'll be in the shelter of the vehicle when not in use, I'm sure it will and You've learned a lot from this experience. The fact that you had an idea and executed it is a far better outcome then not trying in first place and hopefully inspires others to also live their dream. I love your videos as always.

Great setup!! FYI dee zee makes a great rack that is bolt on with no drilling. Ran it with our RTT for 3 years on our Jeep.

That's a slick first build you have there, I'm totally cribbing that three-layer pullout setup. And it's nice you kept the 2nd row for an additional 2-3 passengers. It'd be interesting to know 1) how rattly things are (especially the battery) while offroad 2) as someone who drinks like a camel at times, how's that gallon holding up e.g. is it enough for a trip, or it's just a case of camping where there's a decent supply of water, and that gallon is just for transit/emergencies 3) don't you need some kind of windbreak at the back of the stove, or it's just a matter of parking such that the door is enough to block all wind? The thing with solar panels is that it's... tricky. You might end up having two kits - one on the roof as you ride, one you drag out when you're parked (because you will park under the shade). Not having one is fine for now, given you're not going on some crazy off-grid adventures (yet). Great work here Hannah! To the first of many overlanding builds, and all the safe adventures you'll be having!

Thanks Marcus! Yes everything was a little rattly at first so we pulled it all apart and used wood glue first and then screws and it got rid of any squeaks! The water is enough for a couple of days at least and in Japan there's so many places (like natural spring water) to fill it up if we need to. And so far the wind hasn't been a problem while cooking but we do plan to put some kind of wind blocker up for the future. And yes we'd like some solar panels on the rooftop tent, but yes mostly for when we're just parked at places etc. Still looking into it!

Very cool ! It would be curious to know how much the change affected MPG ( miles per gallon). Maybe have a sticky note that has the Jeep's new height to serve as a reminder when approaching a parking garage that may have a low height or ceiling obstructions. Like your design of the build 👌
