We finally get the 02 Sonoma conversion running, but not without some issues to fix. Next video will be chasing gremlins and hopefully taking the truck for a ride! Stay tuned.

Great video George. Glad to see the truck running, you only have a few teething troubles to fix but i know you can sort it George. It's a pity you can't install a mechanical fuel pump and do away with the electric pump. Look forward to seeing how you fix the problems George. Cheers, Jeff.

Good to hear it run George , Great job ! Your working with OBD2 and the fuel pump is on a timer Though the fuel pump relay . You will need to do some study up on the relay circuit, But there is a way to jump the relay circuit and fuse it for safety. I know the method for ford and jeep but GM would be different by some degree. That Alt charges through the OBD computer and so are all your gauges on the dash controlled in the same way . Most folks use a GM one wire Alt for this mod but there has so be something that was cut in the process of the swap . It's a hard swap on OBD2 as that is the heart of the engine control and dash gauges .. That fuel pressure reg may need to be turned down a tad more and a 1-20 PSI gauge installed . Not sure what the one you have has a range of ?? I have been a part of 2 of these swaps the first being on a 94 & second was 97 The second was OBD2 . I bet you will get it , If I can help I will try .. GOD BLESS YOU ON THIS MISSION !! ENJOYED..

Thank you Shawn. The only gauges not working (so far) are the charging sys and the tachometer. Good oil pressure and water temp, as well as fuel gauge. I'll be chasing gremlins for a bit. I went back over all my wiring today, including pulling the distributor out again, since some of the splicing is down behind it out of reach. Supposedly the purple wire with white stripe going to the tach port on the distributor is supposed to overcome the fuel pump problem, and the white wire from the coil should make the tach work...but both are wired in and neither is working properly. I'll be back at in on Monday with warmer temps.

Awesome job george so happy to it running. If I had been there I would had you replace every gasket in that carb I learned a long time ago when you buy a carb from somebody just rebuild it and replace all gaskets before you put it on the engine. I'M curious to see what the fuel pump problem turns out to be. Thats odd it comes on then stops running. I wonder if its related to the pressure regulator just thinking out loud.
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan 2 жыл бұрын
I did replace all the gaskets and internals that could be done. I just failed to replace the 2 little ones on the inlet and the ones on the float adjusters. They are done now. The fuel pump runs on two separate circuits, one that is just for initial startup and then one that keeps it going afterwards. One of the wires that I supposedly hooked up to the tach port on the distributor was for the second circuit and one of the wires was also for the tachometer. I need to double check the connections going into the distributor cap itself that connect to the coil. I have seen issues with those connections in the past. I am more concerned about why the gauge on the pressure regulator doesn't work... and then the charging system too. We'll get it. Thanks for following along Bob.

Ok so you converted it from Throttle body injection to a carburetor and Hei never saw anyone go backwards like this before. All my vehicles even the oldest has EFI my 1989 F150 even has it and I never noticed anything bad about it. But hey I am surprised you got it to run that fast then I saw your video of your car fire. You did a really nice job on those braided fuel lines well you did a really nice job overall. Wow I was really sorry to see that video of your Sonoma on fire that was awful.

Just watched your other video and I'm very sorry. I notice at 6:00 your Fuel pressure reg is leaking from the red nut. Possibly, I'm wondering if the triple clamped high pressure line got warm and allowed the hose to slip right off. Makes me feel very lucky the multiple times I've had carbs leaking on the manifold with little to no worry.
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan 2 жыл бұрын
No leaks from the high pressure line, there had been a small leak from the carburetor itself and I had fixed the leak at the regulator and actually installed another regulator inline with that one to get the pressure down to 7lbs. The backfire lit it off, whatever it was that was the problem. It's water under the dam now. Thanks Moe.

Im excited, its running good. Im anxois to see that first first second 3rd overdrive shift! You may end up having to install a different fuel pump relay that isnt integrated with the ecm and body control module.

Well, I am wondering about that too. There are a number of plugs not going anywhere which all have grounds in them, but that shouldn't matter since the unit they function with is no longer there. More gremlins to chase down. Thanks Neil.

Hi George, I’m happy you’re ok after the fire , but I have a question? How do you sort out the fuel injection wiring ? I installed a 350 carburetor motor along with the turbo 350 , I have the trans figured out . Cheers 🇨🇦
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan 3 ай бұрын
The fuel injection wiring is not used, only the wires that I mention in the various videos, like for the ignition, the TPS, etc. Essentially you are bypassing the fuel injection system and that part of the computer. Make sure you check for fuel leaks before test driving! Thanks for stopping by. I'm sure yours will get completed and run like a champ.
