I completely agree, while it was rolling I realised. I also liked the intro being delivered while getting ready to paint, there’s an avenue for gentle comedy there if it becomes a regular thing; I can imagine tiny Easter eggs for the video/ sponsor and the odds reenactment of a mistake made or an accident while getting ready.

Hell yeah. Just a good ole painting video about how you painted, what you tried, what worked, what didn't, and how you adapted. This is what I'm here for. This is what inspires me to keep picking up my brush instead of doing something else. Another great video, Scott.

Dude, the quaility of the videos are going up. The change you were talking about, the new types of content, how you want to evolve. This is all good, I appreciate that I'm getting to watch the growth of a channel in real time. Now, what on earth do you have up your sleeves for board games? I think you should *poke* the bear and start maybe talking about these board games you want to include. Maybe skirmish games are the fork in the road that gets you there? If only you knew folks that create games that also are mini agnostic..............(hoping to make a point here).....................

At some point I'd like to make a video about how to make board game models look good, but I'm having a hard time turning into a step by step process.
@evilpeachesofdoomАй бұрын
@@Miniac Maybe look into the Oathsworn game that your buddy keeps talking about on TUP. Probably the closest thing to a plastic kit mini vs a board game mini. Kingdom death counts as plastic hobby kits, as much as I love them and want that, its too much a model first and a game piece second.

From conventional glazing and layering, to wet blending and nmm, the way you discuss transitions and gradients (and actually paint them ofc) has always been massively inspiring, and this vid is no exception! Now that I don't really play 40k anymore and therefore don't need to army paint quickly (I'm keeping my armies, the hobby side of things was more my deal anyway), over the past months, I've just been going at a pace that lets me feel like I'm making progress while not trying to smash stuff out, I've really been inspired to push my skills and learn from your examples. An airbrush would speed things up of course, but even without one I'm really happy with what I'm achieving! Thanks Scott, you've shown me a path to improvement that really gets me excited to paint, and now my grey armies may not stay that way forever!

Something I've seen for oil washing that CountryFriedMinis does a lot, is putting the oil paint on a piece of scrap cardboard for a while before applying, which draws a lot of the oil out of the paint and speeds up the drying time, so you don't have to wait hours between applying it and wiping it off!

i am all about this journey ! something to be aware of for your YT planning quite often when painting a 40k army at this pace, the points can change before you finish your army for an under performing factions, you will likely get point reductions, so you will need to update your list and take more stuff if your faction is over performing it will be cost increases so you can just cut stuff as Drukarhi are not chart toppers you need to factor this into your painting schedule

6:15 alternatively you can add an opaque black paint to your contrast black mix. Inks might have a higher pigmentation, but they also have a very transparent medium, so I think it made sense that you didn't notice much of a difference.
@MiniacАй бұрын
I definitely noticed a difference, but it was just too dark and not much of a remaining grey color to work with. But yeah, acrylic paint is also an option!
@richardebourne6332Ай бұрын
Great end result. Makes me want to start back up woth dark eldar again, and the bare head really marks him out as special. And the weapon swap adds a bit more dynamism to sell the threat level. I like the oil wash idea, but i tend to use panel liner from my scale model cars for my white scar successors; tested on tanks first and def works for my more modest needs. Plus i don't really have time for gloss coats and oils. Also great to see the airbrush coming back to the fore. When i got my airbrush i found your videos so useful to get started. But took me a while to be brave enough to use on 40k!!!

Vallejo Sun Yellow is awesome because of it's transparency and saturation. It thins down so well for glazing or filtering. Moon Yellow has pretty good opacity for a yellow but is a little more desaturated. Together they complement each other very well. You can use one to basecoat and then bring saturation back with a single coat of the other. You can mix sun yellow into any paint to shift its hue without losing any saturation.

On the topic of blending in the oil wash after application and some amount of drying time; I really like what Night Shift does for blending oils and enamels. He uses a brush with a decent amount of white spirit to blend the edges into the rest of the model. The upside is a way smoother blend (what you ended up with is quite sudden transition), the potential downside being that you stain the armor more. That might be a feature or a bug depending on what look you are going for however. Personally I want to try the blending method more too, because I have had sudden transitions in the past and have not always liked the look of them.
@MiniacАй бұрын
Definitely going for "sudden transition". Honestly it's not much of a transition at all. Looking for a stark outline of all the details.
